This is the my "think tank". Sometimes I have a beer or four to unwind. Then we begin some work. Notice the laptop is on this thread. This room is where I do some doodles with some pencil and paper. All rooms are wired into this room. This is where the magic happens. There's Frank working on the latest. Wendy's is bad for you, but hey, it's right across the street! Too easy. Here's one of my work stations. Here is where most of the NFO visuals were born. This is the vocal/isolation room. Wall to wall vocal foam. Those amps are older than most of you on this board! Front room. Here is where we jam. This is also Frank's teaching room during the day. Vintage equipment all the way. Same room. Different view. Classroom. Those are my drawings. Bach, Jaco, Jimi and Miles. Not sure who to do next. Another view Bathroom shower stall. My only prince tribute. Chip tile handy work I did myself. The whole studio has my artwork, photography displayed. Cool thread. Made me get up out of my chair and contribute! Thanks, Kelly All Rights Reserved. |

or I'd like to see what I could do with that picture of James Jamerson too Those pics reminded me of my office wall: Kinda hard to see any detail but they're photographs from a calendar I had. From the top, left to right: Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Bobby Hutcherson, Thelonius Monk, McCoy Tyner. Opposite wall: That Jimi Hendrix poster I made a guy take off of the ceiling of his poster store and sell to me. Had to have it. Office studio: Haven't done one creative piece of work here. Moderator | tA,
Man, your set up looks so organized! I'm jealous! One of these days, I'm going to take a week off and not tell the wife. AND JUST SPEND SOME QUALITY TIME down at the studio and really get things set up just right. Before I do that, I'd LOVE to have at least a grand (and the wife can't know about that either) to buy more lumber, plywood, sound foam, cables, cables, oh and more cables. I'd love some nice track lighting in there too, but that will just have to wait. I'd also like to go to Wallmart and buy a crap load of cheap frames for all the photography and artwork that's not hanging up. I think I've watched enough "Trading Spaces" with my wife to do some real wonders with a thousand dollars. BTW, I've never seen that picture of Jimi. Frank would love that one. He has a huge one up in the front room. All Rights Reserved. |

Aaaaarrrgh! My wife watches that show (and all the variations) non-stop. BTW, I've never seen that picture of Jimi.
That's why I hasseled the guy and refused to leave until he took it off of the ceiling. It's damaged a bit in the corners but I didn't care. A client gave me a drawing of Hendrix that i'm not gonna put up until I get it framed. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Wow all your setups look so..so...professional!
Here's where I play music, record noise, and drop ash onto: Here's an ashtray shaped liked a guitar! And here is the extent of my equipment For some reason I can't figure, all the images are in reverse! Oh here's me fending off another bloody paparazzi who somehow got into my room! As I said, the images are in reverse which doesn't do my great photography any justice at all...if you view that last image in a mirror I actually look pretty damn hot! ..... BULLSEYE!

as you guys can see, my studio looks like a big pile of doo.just kidding. I think we should spend more time talking about how to properly set up a productive work environment. tA you have a beautiful space and so do you Kelly.I think furniture does help when you want to get the neatness.

Thanks! Frank has been a really good teacher in bringing my ears out of a very 2 dimensional world. Just got off the phone with Frank. I'd love to take a trip to one of these multi-million dollar studios and just take pictures. Or google up a bunch of studios and take a look at their set ups. I've got all the tools in the garage to build just about anything. All I'm waiting for is the funds to go buy about a grand in material and make the place plush with lots of storage space to make it not-so-cluttered. My father-in-law is great with some carpendry skills. I could probably sketch out anything I wanted and he'd be able to help me build it. Right now the mixer sits way to friggin high. In fact just about every work station, you need a bar stool, and that hurts your rear end after a while. So you figure you can spend a thousand dollars on some professional studio furniture, or spend a thousand dollars and do the WHOLE studio yourself. The sound foam in the vocal room costs 25 bucks a sheet! So you can imagine what it cost to cover that whole room. You can see I cut them up and spaced them out. For a while there, I was buying one sheet every pay day and THAT took forever to cover that room. I want to put more of that stuff in every room. What I want to do is make a desk that looks like a big "L" with a half circle where the mixing board goes. All the outboard equipment sits at eye level to the left and right of the mixing board and a shelf that extends over the mixing board where the monitors and computer monitor sits. This way you don't have to be walking across the room to tweak this and that knob. Now hard disk recording would eliminate all that and reduce your work space to very minimal. But what to do? Put all that analog equipment up on ebay? or patch it all to work together in a more condensed environment? THEN there is the electrical problem. This place was build in 1938. Right Frank? The electric was re-done probably in the 60's or 70's. (I think) Now you have potential power surges that I don't want to even think about. We unplug everything when we leave and have it rigged so that it's not too hard. I'd love to pay an electrition to come over and really do a power conditioner main "hub" kinda thing where you pull one main switch to shut it all down and power it all up. Now I also do photography. I envision the front room with bracets on the ceiling with "curtains" that cover all the instruments where I can do a photo session as well with permanent lights fixed onto the walls. I want to have the front room so plush that you can do a music video as well. OR INSTRUCTION DVD's that Frank can sell to his students. All takes time and money. We're getting there. Moderator | Also I envision the drums to sit on a 3 foot riser. Almost like a stage where underneath it is storage space for all the guitar cases and road cases. I want one of the larger closets to be neatly fitted with wall hooks and labels and shelves to store all the mics and cables. But that stuff don't need to be out all the time. People would swipe the little stuff all the time. All Rights Reserved. |

BTW, The Audience, listened to your stuff for the first time. Great stuff, you are clearly very influenced by Miles' work in the 80's. This period gets dissed a lot by music critics, but I love it personally. Do you play every intrument yourself? [Edited 10/15/04 1:54am] RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
