Hendrix in today's guitar world

With so many effects units, improvements to stomp boxes, better amps, cabients, pick ups, etc etc, do you think Hendrix would be even more electrifying in todays guitar world?

I think so, what do you all think?

ack! ump! I can't believe THE Langebleu has responded with so few words. I was looking forward to an exerpt from a encyclopedia or something.

Whenever I ponder the "what would Hendrix be doing" I look at previous guitar pioneers.

Chuck Berry: WROTE the book on rock guitar when there was nothing else out there. After the 70's, the man was reduced to embarassing tours where he'd show up to a bar and local sidemen would back him, (Bruce Springsteen for one). Additionally, he found a new hobby in little girls restrooms.

Eric Clapton: Still touring but, even with newer technologies and styles, etc, he's never done anything else groundbreaking since the early 70's. I'm not saying he hasn't done ANYTHING, but he's pretty much doing the "hey remember these killer tunes?" tours. But mad props for him using up and coming talent on his tours, (Doyle Bramhall II)

Pete Townsend: Played alongside Hendrix in festivals all over the world, was in the bar with Clapton with Hendrix first played London, etc. He's a big whiner about deafness and rocks out with an acoustic guitar now.

and lastly,

Carlos Santana: see Eric Clapton.

But hendrix liked to experiment with sounds, maybe he would be influenced by zappa and van halen and go crazy. who knows? he is jimi hendrix after all, he is 3 times more talented than Santana, chuck and clapton together. smile at least in my opinion.

Actually, Hendrix doesn't seem to have evolved a lot since his first '66 recordings until the demo's for New Rising Sun etc (1969/70 I think). The whammy bar tricks, feedback, effects etc. were all there in his style from the beginning of his solo career. If anything, the Band of Gypsies saw him getting back to his roots and becoming less gimmicky/experimental. So no, I don't think he'd have gone much further. His vision was complete and in a sense, most innovators in rock guitar since have gone on to make a more cultured and well-behaved variation of hendrix' inventions. Vai has so much whammy control, that it somehow sounds like a step backward from the Coltrane-like rawness of Hendrix' whammy usage. Hendrix incorporated free jazz, something very few rock guitarists have gotten round to.

Bingo! thumbs up!

Either that direction or he would have been in the Bitches Brew mix.
The stagnation you referred to might have a great deal to do with his inability to cut loose the "burn your guitar" crowd.
So the story goes, toward the end he was more concerned with being a musician than a showman.

Maybe his own fault, maybe his management's.

Funnily enough Musicians are just Human being's like you and me. To expect the impossible is to accept the improbable.Look at Prince, he's walking backwards, using an eraser on his lyrics, like he's shamed at the past. Actually i feel he's just a different guy, pushing a different 'envelope'. Sorry, that's how i feel. As long as someone get's a kick out of music that's all that matters.Your own or someone else's. Whether or not Hendrix would be "better", isn't a fair question, he was inventive, and imaginative and would've maybe been bored with expansive music, via technology, maybe play clasical guitar? smile Hendrix would get excited by the sound of some one dropping his guitar onstage as the sounds were bold and new. Maybe if Shakespeare was alive today he would be writting scripts for Day's of our lives? Dunno peace
~PClinuxOS~ yes I've been here longer than I care to remember, ... I drop in from time to time, ... thumbs up!
