PLEASE LISTEN and comment on a new track from John P.,"City Of Roses"...

Hey everybody,

It's been a while since I've done a track and this is the latest thing I've done, a guitar and propulsive beat improv recorded here on my visit to Portland, Oregon, USA.

So, I've called it "City Of Roses" after the city I'm living in at the moment.

Tell me what you think!

You have to right-click and "save target as" to hear it (otherwise the download won't work):

http://zoon.tripod.com/cityofroses.mp3

Influences on this track are Prince, Bjork and the Chemical Brothers.

For more of my stuff, visit the site in my sig.

Did you create the beat or sample it? It almost sounds like Army of Me. smile I like the guitar... I'm at 2 mintues now, wondering whats gonna happen in the next 8. The guitar is kinda Princey... something Parade-like.

5 minutes... now you're adding more beats... cool. Oooohhh.... panning... biggrin

7 minutes... winding down...

9 minutes... more variations in the beat...

Wow, you soloed for 10 minutes!!! Good job.

I'm gonna need some weed now.

The beat is slamm'n. Sounds like you have good dexterity. But c'mon dont be lazy, get those bends in tune. The overall flow and direction is great. You have natural feel for emotion in your playing which is refreshing. I say lay off the scales and go more in the direction of feel and expression. I felt you at your best doing that. Steveie Ray and Santana and of course Prince are great examples of that.

It would be cool to to addsome chord changes or synths/strings to accent your playing.
Leaving it open lets you go all over the place. Which is cool, but you have a good feel for emotion. A more developed track and tight phrasing would suit your style well.

But if you just felt like wilding out stoned ignore everything I just said...lol

Don't get me wrong, it was interesting enough... just most people will want some repetition to feel more familiar with the song. But not many people can solo for 10 minutes and hold your attention either.. so good on you! The beat is super cool.

Hey everyone, I've done quite a lot more editing and added synths and some little effects and samples.

Check it:

Right click and "save target as" or the download will not work.

Funny while listening, I could tell what you were going to do before you did it. Now don't take that the wrong way it's just that it sounds like me lol. I couldn't believe it. I love this song. It made my download list so that in itself says a lot. Love the Lydian modes and the pull-offs are smooth but it sounds like me which makes me love it more. The amount of time didn't matter to me because the tune is very engaging and hypnotic. As I listen it draws me in more.
Brilliant!!!

Very nice groove, mrdespues! Good programming on the beats and nice guitar work. I enjoyed listening to this track. Some of the samples are too loud in the mix, I think, but it could also be my 5.1. speakers that don't really give a natural sound.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

no you're right actually...some of the effects WERE too loud in the mix....i've softened them now and reuploaded the song.

I added a response a week ago, but it's gone - must have been when the org faeries were trimming branches or something.

I like this song, it's got a killer droning feel to it, almost like it's leading up to something else. The one thing I'd ADD to the song would be a huge money-shot payoff at the end - even if it's just a 30-second mosh-fest slam-dance thing, just SOME kind of high-energy blast to release the tension built up by soloing for 10 minutes over the same chord.

Actually there are a few minor chord changes towards the end to build tension. I tried your suggestion, but I felt it just didn't work with the extra heaviness! Too busy...it's quite a busy song as is....but thanks for the input dude.

thumbs up!
