Okay, before you nail me for my musical sabbatical/hiatus thing - that's from recording. But who's picking nits here.

I played last night as a sideman and it was SUCH a killer gig with the most awesome musicians. It's one of those shows where you're so glad to play and to be able to explore and do your thing with some serious artists.

At the end of the night, we played "Use Me Up" by Bill Withers - but the lead singer/guitarist left the stage for, jeez, like 30 minutes so the rest of us just started exploring the music, taking solos, building grooves, breaking them down, changing them around - it was like playing with legos, it was just awesome. I played the greatest solo i've ever done - well - it's the ONLY time I've ever played a solo, that, when I finished it, the bar blew up with applause! No, of course I didn't record it, don't be silly.

But anyhow, I'm paying the price today, having come home from the gig at 3am and got up with the baby to change diapers at 4 and then at 7, and then to take the older boy out for a walk at 8:30. Yeah, I'm hurting but DAMN it was worth it.

Back to the baby barnyard.

Nice! I love those shows. Funny you shoule mention the singer leaving the stage. I've actually done that a few times and let my band just go. I walk over to the bar and chill!

Cool story but why do you take your kid for a walk?

Please don't tell me you put him on one of those kid leashes too!!!

I took the 2 yr old for a walk. The 1 week old stays in the house for now.

I forgot to put this in the first post - we did ADORE! (at the gig...) the front guy did the sweet sweet ballady parts and I threw in the backups, and then on the grind part (you can tell I'm a man of exquisite taste...) I did the lead vocals and he backed me up - it was AWESOME - we were totally in synch - "burn up my clothes, smash up my ride" -- "well maybe not the ride" bam bam bam - we were firing off lines like we'd played that song together for years. I was amazed how well it went.

Or, okay, maybe it was the bud light, whatever the case, it was flawless. I'll bring the minidisc and record the next gig we do, hope to have some live funk for ya!
