well I'm packing it up. sabbatical if you will... I'm packing the stuff away - giving half the stuff to a friend for awhile. I'm so artistically frustrated right now, I figure just going monk on the shit - walking away for awhile - will help clear up the constipation and stress of wanting to create and wanting to do other things at the same time. All my equipment just sits in the studio calling to me, and these days, I have like 2-3 hours at a time, max, to create. And that's just not enough time.
So, I hope that by just packing it all up for a year or two will help clear my head. Ain't saying I'm leaving the org or nothing stupid - just saying I wont be doing nothing musically for a long while. It's a bummer but I'm hoping it'll help with whatever else I'm going through right now. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Well, that sounds pretty serious. I hope you will find your peace, and I hope you will get back to the music soon. We love you, man, you rock!

WHAT?!?!?
What about those bands you were playing with? Well, I hope you're still around to lend your words of widsom and extensive knowledge to our little corner of the org. (Not to mention your great sense of humor...)

Otan is there a way you can make more time for yourself to record if you want to?
I'm not sure what your day is like so I dont mean to be presumptuous. My ex husband went through the same thing - the studio would call to him but he didnt feel motivated or creative ... Music to me is a very spiritual thing and I guess it makes sense that we need to go through periods of personal change and growth before we can have that reflected in any future work we do.. I hope the break you take gives you the headspace you need - or if you feel there's something inside you waiting to come out but feel restricted by time issues - my advice would be to exercise some willfull force and really make time to push it out. Either way - I wish you heaven. I love your sense of humour too ( except when ur picking on me lol ) PB " the embassy shut to keep the fools out " - as above, so below.

I don't believe you. I say the same thing every week. Don't fight it, Beau... It's in your blood. Most of the time, it's the only thing that keeps us sane.

I'll make you a bet (one I don't mind losing btw).
If you weren't expecting i'd guarantee myself victory. Here's the deal. As soon as your equipment becomes totally inaccessible, you will be hit by a flood of fully formed idears (Lynyrd Skynrd-type lingo) . (Trust me on this.) Wager...an adult/non-adult beverage. / (or maybe even access to a live-music show in your neck of the woods) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Do what you got to do brother.
I tend to agree with t/A, pyscho and bumper but you know yourself. A year seems like a long time but with a new baby, it's not really that long. I would just say keep something small to record with and a guitar just in case after six months you've just got to get something down. It's amazing what a nice break to clear your mind will do.

Thanks. Yes. yes. you're all right. As soon as it's packed up, my funk opera will throw itself in front of me with a storyline, groove, recurring melody and 12 vocal parts all at once. And I'll just shrug and go play with my boys.
The fear of getting that great song pop into my head is pretty much what's keeping all that crap laid out right now. But, I've had a million songs/ideas/grooves pop into my head, and a million more can come and go. It's not like the world needs my stank to survive. So, yes. Songs will pop into my head. Titles will drop on me hourly. They already do. I laugh and imagine an album titled "Duckbag: Hot Karl's Revenge" with me and a guitar. And maybe I'll get it done one day, but nickel and diming myself in the studio wont get anything done right now. DAMN PSYKOSOUL! CLOSED 4 REMODELING IS SWEET! you need to look into doing some movie scores... Harold Faltemeyer would be jealous. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I was surprised to read this, because you post so often, and with good stuff.
It is good to change, though. I get stuck under all the equipment sometimes, and have to stop using it for a while (I'm actually there right now). I want to record songs as soon as I write them, sometimes before they're ready. Then the recording is mediocre, and the basic song doesn't get the focus it deserves. I'm limited by time, too, and It takes me so long to set up, I lose the inspiration. Then i think of the great artists who had nothing but a beat up instrument and inspiration and it takes me back to that basic, hungry mindset where I can just create music, not twiddle knobs or untangle wires. It just gets so complicated trying to juggle all those different tasks. But I always come back to my gear. I've heard your stuff, and I am sure you'll be back with a batch of new songs once you get your equipment back. Check this song out at:
