Violet Moons

This is more of a Right-Hemisphere love song than funk. So there... my disclaimer. wink

This tune was a pain in the A$$ to mix. I originally recorded it way back in January and just recently added some more back up vocals. The vocals I sung back then kind of wander in pitch here an there, or maybe it's just me. This was my first experience mixing in strings and it really gave me problems. I ended up just lowering in the volume.

I can finally burn this monster and get some room back on my harddrive. biggrin

Anyway, If you have time let me know what you think.

Thanks

Dude, very cool song! The intro threw me off the 1st time I listened to it, but then the song kept getting better and better as it went on. The 2nd time I listened, I don't know what threw me off about the intro. Very cool lyrics, very nice feel to the song.

thanks for listening. I checked your page, you have some great tunes here. I do hear the meow in "love and affection" - now that's creative. You always have to think that way IMO. Cool story.

soundclick.com has been having problems the last couple of days. I just checked and it's up now. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Makes me want to get my own space...

Sounds kinky huh, but not so fun this time. I just fixed it -- damn your quick!

You may want to check your mp3's they might have got you too. Some others were complaining about the same thing

oh well, I can't complain - it is free. It should be fixed now, for those that were having problems. This is the second time I've fixed it so no guarantees.

Hey this reminds me of the band WHEAT - they sing "I met a girl I'd like to know better"... (I LOVE THAT SONG)
http://www.wheatmusic.com...A_Girl.mp3
maybe it's the arrangement and singing - same positive-pop stuff. LOVE it.

If you HAVENT hear that song, I'd suggest go listen to it for ideas on mixing. Not saying, "make it sound JUST LIKE THEM", I'm saying, your song is in that vein - with the strings, it maybe moves closer to the CURE a little bit... but go listen to similarly mixed tunes and fiddle. The stuff sounds really good. Are you using EQ to notch out the parts so they'll mix easier?

During the chorus, why do the vocals fade farther back into the mix?

This sounds great poppy college radio stuff. Are you getting it out on radio yet? I would totally expect to hear this on the college station here in ATL.

music I agree that it kinda sounds like The Cure, but also like U2, but then you still have that 60s vibe.

You got a good thing going.

otan,

thank you for the advice. I took a listen to Wheat and... man was I impressed. I like their sound, and songwriting - They have a great vibe. the low end on their tunes are very well done. Mastered very loud w/ Avg RMS @-10 but the peaks are not crushed.

The fade on the vocals during the chorus (in violet moons)... First, they started to fatiuge my ears. Second the performance on parts were annoying and third they were doubled on the same mic, which always give me problems for some reason. It's an older song and I really wanted to finish it without any major work. I probably should have just set up some mics and re-recorded the vox.

I'm going to start pushing my music out there (publishers, labels, etc). I'm very hard on myself, but I'm getting more comfortable. We will see.

Thanks for the listen.
