New Guitar Solo I just updated my track "Nurse of the Mummy's Tomb" with a guitar solo and some other overdubs. It sounds pretty sick, princely if I do say so- http://www.soundclick.com...ymusic.htm my jams- www.soundclick.com/iantimothy

The guitar solo is kicking. The mix is a little busy/dry... what are you using to record? The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

just got Pro-tools, I'm learning as I go along. The mix is definitely busy/and dry. The main problem I think was the drum track: I need to get a drum machine. I want to play everything myself so I don't want to use any pre-recorded loops of any kind. Do you have pro-tools by the way? I'm having a lot of problems with recording and playback, a real pain in the ass. my jams- www.soundclick.com/iantimothy

Nope. I stay away from computer recording if I can. I'm old school. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Yeah, the mix needs some help but what an awesome solo and I love the overall funk vibe.
After listening to both parts it just seems like you need a bass in the mix, I'm just not hearing any lows. Punch some EQ in the low frequency range so at least the kick sounds different, it all sounds mid-range to me. I'm learning like you and I'm no expert, just going by how it sounds.

try using the "pan" to spread things out. build the groove from the bottom up. get the drums, bass, keys, guitar, and auxiliary parts tight in that order. keep bass, drums, and solo guitar in the middle. put keys in stereo far left and right. put the sax in the left ear 50%. put the other stuff in the right ear 50%.

I'm not looking for advice about the mix. Only compliments. If you don't have a compliment than don't reply, unless you're Prince. my jams- www.soundclick.com/iantimothy
