A Bit Confused... ...how can u own ur publishing but not own your masters? Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...

The entire recording industry is one big question mark. The last ones to get paid are the ones performing the music. But at least the performers are still getting paid. It's better than flippin' burgers. What's the use of being young if you ain't gonna get old

Simple.
The publishing is about who wrote the music and lyrics. This is about intellectual property of the musical and lyrical content, the 'ideas'. Ownership of the master is about the actual physical recording master and the right to reproduce this mechanically. They're different rights, financially seperate too and it's very usual that they're seperate. For instance, if I cover your song, the publishing remains yours, but my record company or I would own the recording. Get it? | |

Get it? so ownin u masters mean u own the original tapes and can reproduce them without re recordin them...and publishin is like u still get credit 4 writin and composin and u still get paid..okey doke i get it.
