What was so good about the NPG Audio Shows? The first year of the music club was the dawn of an hour long monthly download called the NPG Audio Shows... I've heard many comments that they were the funnest thing about the club when it first started. Since this seems to be the forum for questions about the club.....
1. Should they bring them back? 2. Did you like the Audio Shows? 3. What did you like best about them? 4. Why do you think they stopped them? I heard one of the shows and it made me wish I could turn on the radio and hear a phat spread like that. [This message was edited Thu Apr 29 4:29:49 2004 by RomeoMustDie]

I'm not fussed. 2. Did you like the Audio Shows? They were OK. Novel at the time, but I preferred the availability of individual songs (which often featured in the Ahdio shows as well) It was an issue for some that the shows were generally large file sizes, so they took an age for people with a 56k modem to download. The mix of music was OK, but often they included tracks which would also feature as that month's download (or the full version would appear next month), so there was a modicum of repetition throughout the year. 3. What did you like best about them? Hearing unreleased music. 4. Why do you think they stopped them? I guess because of the difficulties some people had with downloading the files. There was certainly some feedback which suggested that downloading was OK, but some people would prefer CDs delivered to their door for an annual subscription. And, aside from an occasional download, that's what was arranged for the following year. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I liked them and would have no objection to them returning. RIP

I'd be happy to see them again. I only managed to listen to one or two of them as at the time it was pretty much impossible for me to download them even though I had DSL. I'm sure they have spent time and money upgrading their hardware so that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

I really liked I believe the July show b/c of the Kip Blackshire songs. And I also still would like a high quality bersion of the song Jukebox with a Heartbeat.

I love them... I have them here at work and hit 'em up randomly... I think it would be cool
if the NPGMC kick-started it again... there is ONLY a lifetime of music and different versions and non-vocal outtakes from jam sessions that could be used... This is the story of Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance...

The Ahdio shows were a brilliant idea, but they fizzled before they had time to really get interesting...it was all a tease: "You want more? Tune into the NPG Music Club. Funk Owned and Independently Grown. 'Cause there ain't no middle maaaan, until the FUNK reigns!" Granted, that last quote is fabulous, but he did things like give us the INTRO to "100mph," and then have some computer voice cut into it and tell us that if we liked it and wanted more we better go to the source, the NPG Music Club, which of course we already paid $100 to at the beginning of the year, so it's not like we needed to be sold. The commercial aspects of them were unnecessary, and the shit with Femi making fun of some fan bitching about the Ahdio show being too short...I find that hilarious coming from a company that's all about Unity, heh.
But yeah, there are a couple cool Ahdio shows, and a decent deejay/engineer/music historian could crank 'em out once a month until the end of time, continually giving us rare and unexpected gems. Ah, to dream... No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

yeah, i think they were pretty good. I had all 12, well, if there were only 12, and it was a pain to find download them all. Then, my ipod got cracked and so far i've found all but the last one, the xmas show, which was pretty uninspiring anyways.

Ok.. i've got them all downloaded now with the artwork. It was great to see some live shows thrown in.. does anybody know what year they were from?

They're from Year 1 of the club, so they were released in monthly editions starting 2/01 and going through 1/02....with the exception of (I think) 11/01 (or 10/01?) which was replaced with the advance all-in-one-track download of TRC.
And who ever said the Ahdio shows were all that? They could have been SO much more...as it is, they're about 50% funky and 50% lackluster filler and "contractual obligation." No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Heck, if only some of those ARGHdio shows were half as good as some of the "contractual obligation" albums....

I was referring to his having a so-called "contract" with his fans to produce 3 or 4 unreleased downloads per month in addition to an hour-long "radio show."
That was the way I perceived it, anyway. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
