I dont know why I thought the songs on C-Note were ones I'd gotten already from the 2001 year but if they are I dont seem to have them. Are they something I would have already DL'd? I dont know if I should keep looking or not

The original distribution of C-NOTE tracks to club members was kind of spotty - I'd invest.

They are not included in any Ahdio shows. They are 4 instrumental, jazzy jams recorded at various soundchecks on the Japan leg of the ONA tour, and the previously unreleased Empty Room (live) recorded at the last Paisley Park celebration, I believe.

NPG club members were emailed a link to various of the instrumentals to download for free - but haphazardly, some got one link, others got none. I think it was some kind of experiment, and the downloads were not up for long.

Altogether C-NOTE is pretty short - you can burn both Xpectation and C-Note onto one disc I think.

Empty Room in particular is fantastic.

C-NOTE is a collection of soundcheck 'moments' from the fall 2002 leg of the ONA tour. Each letter of the acronym "CNOTE" corresponds to the title of a file made available for download from the NPGMC in early 2003.

C=Copenhagen
N=Nagoya
O=Osaka
T=Tokyo
E=Empty Room (from Copenhagen)

Emails with links for downloading these files were sent to the members located in the respective territories corresponding to the soundcheck locations. However, members soon shared the links with each other internationally and a complete project was 'assembled' and given the title C-NOTE as a joke shared among fans about the cost of the 2002 version of the club not equalling the benefits. (a C-note is American vernacular for a $100 bill, the cost of the 2002 membership) It was thought at the time, that the Club was attempting to make amends to the members for not producing CDs advertised in the ONA tourbook as part of the 2002 membership, by making these files and Xpectation available.

Later in 2003 C-NOTE was announced to be one of the discs included in a forthcoming seven disc collection entitled "The Chocolate Invasion". This release was put on indefinite hold due to manufacturing problems and now parts of that project have been made available via the musicology download store.


On a personal note, I never liked the arbitrary sequence these recordings were put in just to make a joke work, so I did a little research and burned a copy with the tracks in a chronological sequence which flows much more organically and made more logical sense to me (especially the rain storm segue from Tokyo to Osaka):

Since the Club released more live material from the ONA fall 2002 tour in the form of "Bataclan"; October 2, 2002, I've added this file to the beginning of the set and it makes for a terrific, nearly hour-long disc and a great companion to the "It Ain't Over" aftershow CD from the ONA...Live box set.

I couldn't tellya, cuz I just have the version from the original files - but based on the Chocolate Invasion, Slaughterhouse and assorted "singles" downloads I bought from the club, I can say I'm very happy with the sound quality overall, and that the TCI and Slaughterhouse tracks sound better than ever to my ears.

if i remember correctly, the bataclan show was october 28 not october 2. you could place it between copenhagen and tokyo to be truly chronological, but that would break the flow of the rehearsals.

YIKES!! You are absolutely correct, sir! The One Nite Alone tour was in London on October 3, 2002. I don't know what gave me the impression that Bataclan was on that date, but I have to thank you very much for that correction - now on to fix my CDR sequence....
