what other artists do for selling downloads

se7en pointed this out to me. Look what pearljam does for their download store:

http://pearljam.com/downloads/dl_1.html

Not just all of their studio albums, you can buy 72 live concerts are at the iTunes store. And then at iTunes, when you are on the PearlJam page:

http://phobos.apple.com/W...tId=467464

it includes a link to the pearljam web site.

Anybody know any other artists who do something similar? Anybody know of any other artists who sell music at their own web site that uses something other than WMA?

http://www.liveMetallica.com/

LiveMetallica.com offers downloads of high quality soundboard recordings of complete concerts throughout the current tour.

34 SHOWS NOW AVAILABLE!

Concerts will be downloadable within days of each performance.

Using LiveMetallica.com is very simple:

1. Browse the Show Catalog and select the show(s) you would like to purchase.

2. Once you select a show, you will be taken to that show's page. Each show will be available in two different audio formats: MP3 (Standard) and FLAC (Premium). Shows are priced based on the number of sets and the audio format. For an explanation of audio formats, please see the FAQ. Click on your preferred format to add the show to your shopping cart.

3. You can return to the Show Catalog to purchase more shows, or you can proceed to Checkout. Once you've completed your purchase you will get an order confirmation with a list of the show(s) you've purchased. If a show from the list is currently available, you may download it immediately. We will notify you by email when shows you've pre-ordered are available for download. Typically shows will be available within 5 days of the actual performance. Click on "My Downloads" to view a history of shows you've purchased.

4. You will have 48 hours to completely download all the files for each show you purchase. The 48 hours starts when you begin to download each show, not when you purchase the show. Once you have downloaded your shows you may listen to them on your computer, transfer them to your handheld music player, or burn them to CD with your favorite audio software.

5. For those who choose to burn CDs of their downloads, we have created custom CD labels, booklets and tray inlays specific to each show. Links for these items can be found on each individual Show Page. The PDF files are compatible with the NEATO line of CD accessories.

Concrete: for $12.95 (which seems to be the average price) you can buy a 2-CD concert in actual CD-QUALITY: FLAC is a lossless compression format like zip and when you unpack a FLAC file you get WAV files.

Plus you also get OFFICIAL artwork.

Plus you can download a show you've been to just a couple of days later. Prince's site can't even post a PICTURE of a show, or a tracklist, yet just browsing through this site I see pictures from each concert, a tracklist, a picture of the ticket... and I didn't even have to pay $25 just to visit it!

Imagine if Prince did this: he'd make TONS of money, bootleggers would be out of business and he'd get acres of great press and a lot of happy fans.

WHAT IS LIVEPHISH?

Live Phish Downloads offers high quality, unedited soundboard recordings of select shows in standard MP3 and CD-quality FLAC files via a state-of-the-art delivery system. All download files are compatible with Windows, Mac and Unix, allowing for maximum flexibility and ease of use. Once downloaded, shows can be burned to disc, transferred to portable players, or played through your computer. Each show also comes with printable booklets, tray inlays, and labels if you elect to burn your files to CD.

Similar price as Metallica, but they also include some old shows (1990, 1992,...).

Imagine if Prince did this: he'd make TONS of money, bootleggers would be out of business and he'd get acres of great press and a lot of happy fans.

Great point...the club is such essentially useless for anyone who is more interested in the music than switching to Prince's religion. There is never any information whatsoever about any of the tracks that are released for download. As you stated, there are almost never pictures of the concerts...and when they are, they're pictures of the crowd! eek Why would anyone care to see that?

I mean, PP9 starts a stupid thread in the Concert forum asking people to post their thoughts on each show...would it really be too much to ask him to put up a freaking setlist?

It's a shame too, because there are so many blind followers in there who will take whatever they are given without question...what they SHOULD do is start telling the club what an official artist's website is supposed to be. There should be information about albums. The Vault should be correct and complete (what a fucking joke THAT room is!!). The VIP room or whatever the hell it's called should have more than ONE song on the weekend. I kinda doubt it that when PP9 goes to a club he listens to the same song over and over and over...and this is off topic, but who the fuck chooses those songs? I mean, 1999:The New Master? How exactly does it make any sense to play that Rosie remix? First of all it SUCKS ASS, and secondly, 1999 was 5 years ago...get over it already! Time is a trick! wink

Shit, they can't even be bothered to put up any more of those little essays that they wrote years ago. They can't even be bothered to have a list of all the concerts he's playing!!! Someone asked if the club could do it, and another member said they should just quit whining and go to the Ticketmaster site...um, isn't the point of the NPGMC that you don't HAVE to go all over the net searching for the most basic information? I mean I know it has never actually turned out that way, but that's certainly how they hyped it.

The absolute only thing that the club is good for is making empty promises. They LOVE to promise shit and not deliver...it's like an addiction for them. As a case in point, PP9 announced that we should look out for a download of A Question of U....um yeah, I'm SO expecting that to happen. It's hard for me to believe that anyone who works for that organization would make ANY promises whatsoever, because the vast majority of the time they do not keep these promises, and then we are scolded for daring to have expectations.

Whew, sorry to be so long-winded, but I would love to have 1/2 hour with Prince or the moderators, so I could tell them how much damage the club continues to do to his reputation and fanbase.
