Hi,

after spending quite some time trying to download a music file I had to give up realizing that the newest Max OS X is obviously not able to handle the download properly. I was able to download the music file but obviously not the security file of it.

Anyway, luckily a friend of mine has a pc and at least here I was able to download the file but I was not able to burn it. My question here is how can I burn a cd or convert the wma file to mp3's for my mac.

Help is highly appreciated!

I'm baffled with all of the trouble Mac users are having with this. It's certainly not as smooth a process as using the iTunes Music Store, but it DID work for me on my Mac. I have a new 1Ghz G4 iMac running the latest build of Panther. I was even able to do it all using Safari (granted, cloaked as IE).
After I got the "you have received the security file" (or whatever) message but did not have the PLAY button on the screen, I simply opened the stupid Windows Media Player and used its PLAY button. Worked just fine.

It is a really clumsy process, but it does, technically, work. I think we Mac folks are so spoiled by ease of use that jumping through Windows usability hurdles throws us for a loop!

however, when I try to download the "try this download file 1st" or I try to play the downloaded song I get the following error: Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and file name are correct and try again.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The first thing I did was download the most recent version of Windows Media Player. I then went to the Preferences area of Safari and set the default Browser setting to Internet Explorer. I think I also updated my flash player, but I'm not sure about that (I tried a LOT of things yesterday morning!). I DID use Safari the whole time, though I do remember an IE window opening up automatically, I never actually used IE in the process.

When I first went to the store the "Try this first" didn't work for me but, after I did this, it did and the downloads worked.

Well it ain't working for me. I did all the recommended steps, recent version of WMP, set the default browser setting to IE, updated my flash player and it is still not working. Well I guess I do have to be patient till the 20.04.04 or I do have to find somebody with a PC.

Well, I actually didn't bother download Musicology! I figure I'll have it on a real CD in a few weeks anyway and won't need to deal with jumping through hoops to get the thing on my iPod. I just picked up the two single tracks and The Chocolate Invasion...decent enough, but nothing blows me away.

Wish I could give you some advice to get the store working for you though!

actually, as long as anybody is coming up with an easy kind of way to download and burn these files I wön't bother either. I am sure the npgmc will respond and at one point it will be easy for us as well to access the music.

Trust me Fran, I had problems but got there in the end.

Download your track by ctrl-clicking the download link and saving it to disk (depends what browser you're using but its usually something like 'Download Link to Disk...'.

The before you do anything else open your internet prefs in Safari and choose Internet Explorer to be your default broswer.

Once its downloaded, find the WMA file on your drive and double-click it. If you have Windows Media Player 9 installed it will launch which will then in turn launch Explorer to check you can have the licence. I have found that you need to do this TWICE. The third time you double-click the WMA file it should play automatically.

To get it to a format that you can burn I recommend Audio Hijack Pro that allows you to record from WMP 9 to either AIFF or MP3.

As I wrote in another post, this could work or not.
After the download, windows media player gives me an 'cannot open the file' error, using my imac. And it did not open explorer. It is the default browser.

Using a ibook, with same files, same os version, same wmp version, and same ie version, it works.

I read many mac feedback about this 'cannot open the file' error, but really I can not found what is different from my ibook and my imac. I have the same software versions of all the programs on both, so I can not understand why it works on my ibook and not on my imac.
