Is this a good deal for the consumer? So let me get this straight...a few months ago, they were going to release a 7-CD set called The Chocolate Invasion, which apparently is now going to be drip-drop released online, again. Okay, that's cool - it's nice that everyone now has access to these great songs, although I'm confused as to why the club continues to give false information to the media regarding the pricing (it is only $.99 per track for the 2 live songs - otherwise it's $9.99 per full CD, no mixing and no matching).
How much do you think TCI would have cost? I was banking on some minimal packaging and a price tag in the $50 range. Right now at the club, you can download compressed proprietary Windows Media files that can only be played or burned from the specific computer you use when you download it. You can get C-NOTE, Xpectation, Slaughterhouse and Silicon - so essentially half of the aborted TCI project, right? Except of course not CD quality. And how much would it cost you for WMA files of half of TCI? $40. 
How much you wanna bet in a couple of months The War shows up as a download for $9.99? Outrageous...seriously. I think the current pricing (not to mention the FORMAT of the downloads) is out-fuckingrageous. *** An hour or so later edit: Okay, I'm off my self-righteous horny pony. I still don't like WMA files, but the 2 live tracks are slammin'. (Although I HATE how "In This Funky House" completely ruins the syncopated flow of that chant!) And for a member, it costs $1.54 to download Controversy and the Bataclan Carrot, ahem...I mean single. That's over 17 minutes of music for A DOLLAR FUCKING FIFTY FOUR. Sweet! 
Now the fact that there's an unreleased "Dance Song" on Silicon makes me a tad less happy...anyone care to throw that on Kazaa and Fuck the Corporation? Now, maybe I'm missing something here, but we haven't actully "bought" anything with these "downloads"...we're simply renting access.
I'm on a Mac, finally got it to work, but it's only playing a streaming file of Controversy. It doesn't appear to have actually downloaded anywhere to my computer. Am I missing something here? It won't even play the song all the way through. I'm on broadband, and never have any problems with streaming data, but Controversy is cutting out about 2 minutes in! | |
