a ? for mac users

i have a certain dvd that i would like to burn to disc. the only dvd burner we've got in our spot is a mac. i haven't the slightest idea of how to actually burn the disc though. i copied the files but when i try to drag them to the proper area, i get a message saying that i can't do it. the mac guide doesn't help much nor does the 'help' search on the machine.

anyone know what i'm screwing up?

Kinda the wrong forum, but...

Are you trying to make a COPY of a DVD or are you just trying to burn data from the Mac to a DVD drive?

it is the wrong forum but there is so much discussion of mac in here, i thought it would get noticed quicker...

well, i copied the dvd so now there is a desktop icon with a dvd image thaat says untitled...i get all that, lol...but now that i'm trying to put that file on a blank dvd i keep having troubles. i followed the help info but i got that message i mentioned above. now, the original dvd (which is also a copy) does play in the mac. this copied file gives me an error message. should i try copying the dvd again?

you mean you just made a copy of a DVD and want to burn it back to a new DVD? I'm not sure you can do it like that as it likely ends up formatted wrong. I've never tried myself, though. Do you get formatting options for the blank DVD?

no, no formatting options. the blank dvd disc is specifically an apple disc.

here - go to this page

http://guide.apple.com/

and type "copy DVD" into the search engine. Several things come up that sound like they might do what you want, but I've never used them.

Use "Disk Utility" (Found in your applications/utilities folder

Make a disc image of the DVD you want to copy. Once the disk image is made, eject the master DVD. Put in a blank DVD. From within Disk Utility, find the disc image you just made and burn the DVD. It kind of fakes your computer into thinking you have two DVD drives. Hope that helps you out.
