NPG... get stupid, get stupid! How stupid can you get?
Going on record stating a promise that members will be members for life is the most stupid thing they could have done...ever. Once the club has made up its mind for a new scheme of things (new price, new "content" etc.) they will revoke this promise, claim it was never meant that way and all hell will break lose: All the fams will come crying and complaining in here... again... that orgers are nothing but a bunch of haters and that they shouldnt take things so literally, but support Prince because he has given "so much for free" and stop being so selfish and yadda yadda yadda. And all naysayers will have their final laugh again and bitch and bitch about how they told all y'all that the NPGMC is not worth joining. And the entire circus will run crazy again, thanks to some stupid promise. Lord, how stupid can people get.... You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

I think they just mentioned that current members will remain members for now, without giving a timeline of how long.

It was not announced 'for life' , Members will not have to re-new membership is what was posted. "If you really want something in this life, you have to work for it - Now quiet, they're about to announce the lottery numbers!"

I don't have the actual quote from the pp's, but I have seen it, it is true and the talk has spread that it is "forever"or "for life" and actual quotes from the pp's have been shown.
quote Haystack: "We were told that all existing members would remain members forever, by the PPs" ShowMePeaceLove quote: " JOIN THE NPGMC ONLY 25.00 THAT IT IN U R A MEMBER OF NPGMC 4 LIFE ...NO MORE JOINING EVERY YEAR ...U R A MEMBER 2 DAY THE NEXT DAY NEXT MONTH IN NEXT YEAR ...U R A MEMBER 4EVER" It was not announced 'for life' , Members will not have to re-new membership is what was posted.
The words were along the lines of "for life". Even if they weren't but like you said then you can still say you don't have to renew membership when the club renews. You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

I'm lost.
Is this a rant about some mix of tangible and intangible benefits that we'll get over an extended period of time of indeterminate length by having paid the bank-breaking (I was tempted to say "pincely") sum of $25? Or is it about something of actual significance?

all i know is about a year ago, i joined the club for 25 bucks. at first i was cool with the offerings. eventually things got sketchy. things cleared up. now, there is no new membership fee. maybe just for now. maybe longer. but, regardless, i have tickets for la and i'll soon have presale tickets for chicago and champaign. no ticketmaster fees. no taxes. cool.

Good point SpiceyAss...not having to pay exorbitant TM fees is a HUUUUUGE benefit to me. It feels so much better to drop money on concert tickets than it has in a long time!!! Those fees are depressingly large. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

you know those fees for the la show were the equivelant of a membership fee. plus, supposedly the new cd is being given out to those who buy a ticket. not to mention the added benefits of free aftershow parties (where applicable). yeah, not so bad for spending 25 bucks a year ago.

No offense but this seems a tad premature. Are some of us just looking for some reason, any reason at all, to be ticked off at the club now? Now it's things that the club hasn't actually done but we anticipate the club will do?
Right now the sign-up page says "NO XPIRATION DATE". Now if at some distant point in the future this all goes horribly wrong, then fine, I'll be the first to co-sign your thread complaining about it. Although, considering I signed up last year and didn't expect at all for the benefits to extend into this year I wont be complaining too loudly. Till that horrible, horrible day, I'm just gonna enjoy my great seats at the Prince concert next month that costs me the outrageous premium of $25 that I paid almost a year ago. The Bastards, how could they do that to me! :insert sarcasm here: . [This message was edited Tue Mar 2 14:48:45 2004 by Universaluv]

So they call it in their own press release: "a lifetime membership". How clear can it get?
Do you people actually expect the NPGMC to give you a LIFETIME membership??? Do you really believe the NPGMC will be around your entire life??? Then you must be insane. This is NOT a "complaint", universallove. This is criticism on the incredibly stupid and MISLEADING announcements the club makes. The club is not going to honour this promise, because even if they wanted to, THEY CAN'T. But now, all the freaks who hadn't joined yet, go and become a member, for only 25$ (yeah... what's 25$ when you mislead tens of thousands of peoples with promising bullshit??? Right, a half to a million dollars, or even more), because they believe they will be a member for life, receive free cd's when purchasing a concert ticket (for "only" 125$), and the NPGMC is the only place where to get front row tickets. To me this just another shameless NPGMC scam. -- [This message was edited Wed Mar 3 1:23:27 2004 by Abrazo] You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

It reminds me a lot of 2002 when they advertised members would get 4 new exclusive albums. Well, no way they did. So 250 dollars... fine, "several" seems like about the same to me. ONA Live may have come for free in your mailbox (lucky you), but I pad 100$ for it, including a copy of ONA piano. Oh yeah and I got it 3 months after the stores already had it for sale for much less, while it was supposed to have beene exclusive. I was a member during the ONA tour but had to pay 100$ to get into the aftershow, which I therefore didn't. So, I don't see what was so incorrect about my post. Let's call ourselves PeePees and have wet smelly sex.
Please? For her sake, if not for the sake of your eternal soul. I think that everybody should bring religion into bed with them - it's HOTT with 2 T's (which are shaped like crucifixes which have SO many delightful, odor inducing uses!!). I know that's not a crucifix, and it certainly doesn't remind ANYone of a sex toy...but it just seemed right, you know? No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. Yes, it's true that the sign-up page says "No XPiration Date," but that doesn't mean that all aspects of the club in the future will be totally free.
If you read the mouseover text for Musicology under the "Learn More" heading, it explains that as a member, you'll pay over 20% less per download than nonmembers. So yes, you'll still be able to schlep through the foyer and all the rooms for the price of your membership, but you may be nickel-and-dimed for any extras along the way. Essentially, anything of real interest that the club has to offer from here on will be pay-as-you-go. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"
