Still pimpin' that ol' Musicology joint?

PeePee6 put up a "sticky" that says:

NEWSFLASH 4 RELEASE:
Musician Prince unleashed a brand new tune on an unsuspecting audience Friday nite at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. After being invited onstage by former James Brown sideman Maceo Parker whose headlining stint that nite was going along just fine, Prince revved up the crowd a few notches higher by launching in2 "Musicology"- a JB infused shot of old school funk that had the whole crowd mesmerized! Backed by a brand new lineup of his NEW POWER GENERATION band, Prince danced, cued the band 4 solos and toyed with the sweaty concertgoers all the while spitting rhymes like: "Wish eye had a dollar 4 every time they say, "dontcha miss the feeling music gave U back in tha day?" Yes, Prince...as a matter of fact, we do!

***

Is it just me, or does anyone else find that last sentence to be odd?

Hope this cool-ass chick doesn't mind me posting her sweet review over here so that The Banished Ones can read it...if you do, lemme know, OK? Thanks for the review - ALWAYS appreciate people who take the time to write detailed reviews of performances!! wink

A NPGMC member graciously posted:

"Well ya'll tonight was once again off the chain...I have to first say that Maceo is a very entertaining and fun performer and I loved every minute of his show...he kept saying it was going to be a special nite and of course he was right.now I know most people heard the rumor that Prince might show up and perform...but..u never know..rumors are rumors...however...as I was walking thru the upper room I noticed some people that kinda gave me the idea that Prince was in the building...now for me all this said was that he came to support Maceo and I wasn't quite sure if he was going to perform...and other suprise..Candi dulfer showed up tonight! Next up was Renato who came out and did a little damage to Morris's keyboards with the solo that he performed...while being mesmerized by the funky sounds coming from his fingertips...something else caught my ear...who is that? John blackwell...now even thought it wasn't his drumset..he still put a spanking on those bad boys...never a disapointing moment with him...he a bad bad man...lol...next out..and this was my first time seeing her...RAD!!! And I have to say you may be a tiny little thing but u can bang the heck outta some keyboards...after about I would say..oh 20 minutes of hearing some impromptu solos ...it was time...

That's right...Ronda came out ahead of Prince and all of a sudden after a quick set up...IT WAS ON! The first song they played was Musicology...ummm..what can I say? WHEN CAN I GET A COPY???QUIT HOARDING THE FUNK! Let's that music gooo...set it free! lmbo...It was funky and I can't wait to get a copy so that I can hear it anytime I like...Thank you for giving us a taste of what is to come.

The next song they did was No diggity No doubt. Off the chain once again...I have to say Prince and the band keep suprising me...

Now let's talk about what they brotha had on...Well it wasn't the up to your neck Pinstripe suit tonight...NOPE! Brotha man was looking kinda good in his tan suit with is open white shirt and the npg medallion hanging...now that's who I like to see him looking...like he's having fun and loving life...don't get me wrong..the pinstripe suits are funky..but Prince just seemed a little more open and free tonight...maybe it's not the suit but it's something...

All in all...Maceo and his band gave an excellent performace..if u get a chance check out the funky afrodesiacs..they are off the chain...and THANK YOU PRINCE...RENATO...JOHN...RHONDA...RAD...MACEO...AND GREG..."

I'm starting to get the same anti-anticipatory ennui about "Musicology" that I did when I kept hearing about "The Work" all the time. The first couple of mentions, okay, I'm psyched...but he's been sitting on this dang song for over a year and the few people who have heard it can barely recall it well enough to properly describe it...eeg...

same old same old.

prince bragging about something that nobody else can comment on because nobody else knows anything about it. like anxiety said, most peeps who have heard the song obviously don't find it too memorable. oh well, when that greatest hits set is released...with musicology as the obligitory 'new' song...we'll finally hear it.

yay.

well, first and certainly foremost, i am NOT a fam.

i used to be a fan of prince. when i first signed onto the org in the black and purple days, i was a huge fan and p could do no wrong. gradually, though, prince has been increasing his amounts of disappointment. i still enjoy the music when it comes out but, other then rainbow children, i think most of it has been sub-par. back in the day, prince's antics and ego were fun because it really seemed like he was simply giving people something to talk about...which was what they wanted. but the way he's treated his fans (especially since his 'emancipation' from wb) is awful. being a fan of prince has become as tedious as looking at your cell phone bill, too. i mean, you always have to be prepared for hidden costs and unexpected expenses.

i hope that answered your question.

no, actually i am here to talk about other musicians (and other topics) with people i've met while talking about prince. sometimes a prince topic comes up that i feel like discussing. usually not. and yeah, i usually enjoy talking about prince's past...because his present hasn't been to happenin' for me.

I understand. but i mean. At LEAST prince is the only person who does actually have a website where u can come in2 his world, and at LEAST he did release 2 CD's in the past year. Think of how many fams of Janet, Michael, Madonna or some1 else big would LOVE 4 their artists 2 even have something like that 4 them. How many bootlegs do u think that they are releasing on their fan websites?

I feel that Prince has done alsot 4 us. Ok maybe not as much as U WANT, but it's enuff 2 fit what u need from him now. If he go about just mad giving out stuff of his music then there's not going to be much of a surprise, gotta give it time and klet the suspense and anger build up!

Just like if u have sex everysingle day with the same girl, i mean u gonna have 2 take a break once in a while, then u will miss eachother again. If Prince releases new singles in the Reflection room every week, and then his new album comes out..its like...wasnt no reason 2 miss him much anyway.

This says more about you than it does about Bowie or his official fansite, which is infinitely more well-maintained, better moderated and chocked with more features and updates than the NPGMC would (or apparently could) even contemplate.

There are tons of official fan sites out there that are far better maintained than NPGMC, and many of them are run by and for artists who only have a sliver of Prince's resources, yet treat their fans and visitors with far greater regard.

haven't most of us answered that? just 4 the record, and the last time, i was happy with years 1 and 2. since i have not honed in on my psychic abilities, i was unable 2 4c 2 just what extent this year would suck my ass. now that the year is over, looking back i can say that i have been thoroughly disappointed with this year and have not been given any ncentive 2 give him my $ again 4 this club. but, more importantly, i've kind of become indifferent 2 the whole prince 'phenomenon' al2gether. i most likely will not be joining again.

hopefully, that clears up any CONfusion that may have xisted as 2 my reasons 4 being a member. but just in case, 2 make it easier 4 u, i've written this in princebonics. hope it worked.
