NPGMC? Sheep? Stay away? Religious brainwashing? Wha?

hmmm

Well, I've been a member of the NPGMC for the last 2 years and I have to say, I'm confused. What is this about religious bullying and brainwashing and whatnot?

Do u mean to say that some people actually spend considerable time over at NPGMC, even when there isn't a new product being sold or promoted or misleadingly alluded to???

I don't see the problem. Yes, this latest outbreak of fansite quashing gets my goat to some extent. Enough to be pissed off with the little purple fucknut, but the whole religious thing doesn't affect me.

I had no idea people actually did try to make the NPGMC their virtual Prince 'home' on the web.

Why complain about the forums there? Just post here. To me it's all about the music. I own unreleased recordings on CD-R but no 'official' smile bootlegs, but the closure of someone else's site is just that and nothing more. I love Prince's music, though I can't stand his behaviour sometimes, BUT, I love Prince's music!

People act like the club forces stuff on u, yet it's perfectly possible to be a member, get your music and your membership's worth (this is open to debate, but...), and not have any religious thoughts whatsoever thrust upon u.

It's more than possible to love Prince the musician and not Prince the man and live happily ever after. I'm happy with the music I have- the official releases, the unofficial stuff I was able to hastily get hold of before I came to Thailand to sign my life away... big grin

What I don't know doesn't hurt me. And my point is? Not exactly sure. Perhaps through some replies, some flamings, some intelligent thoughts I'll find out.

Thanks,

Nick.

Good points. Glad to hear you're satisfied as a member of the club. I don't belong and probably will not join, but it's about the music for me too. Sometimes Prince gets on my nerves, but I try to forget about that and stay focused on the music.

I can understand why some Prince fans don't sign up to the club. There are several reasons why they might not. But it doesn't make them any less a fan, it's just a choice u make.

Seeing how products have been released through the club it's easy to see that it's possible to remain a Prince music fan and get hold of his music with or without the club.

I sign up just in case I can't get hold of something without the club membership. I don't think the club is expensive so I sign up. I don't feel bitter about it, but perhaps that's because of financial matters or something. $25 is not a lot, even just to check in every month or so to see if anything has changed. I'd rather do this just in case. This doesn't mean I agree with Prince's behaviour, or agree that the club gives good value.

I am enough of a fan to care about missing out on something, but not enough of a fan to chase bootlegs of the guy. I wouldn't know where to start to get a bootleg recording. I'm sure I'd love to hear some of them, but something makes me feel it'd be like opening a whole new time-consuming obsession that would take over my life.

For me, Prince is brilliant. He was brilliant and right now he is very good. I won't support him blindly, but if I love his music I'll love his music! Right now I love his music, so forgive me for wanting more of it and signing up to the club. Yes, I don't like his ways sometimes, but he is a musician and singer and I like him. I want more Prince music and I'm happy to join the club. If we're talking about $25 it's pretty silly really. It may not be good value, or it may be, but it's just a simple choice and people can make it. Why the drama?

Make your choice.

Here is the number one reason I am a member of NPGMC:

Concert tickets

I will gladly spend the $25 to get tickets. I say this even if he does not tour this year.

I joined the club in year 2 for the same reason. I, however, waited until the LA gigs were confirmed before I joined. The ONA shows were fantastic and worth the money. The piano CD and ONA Live Box sets were nice but they were not my reasons for joining.

As for this past year. Well, I did not bother to join. If he's going to require NPGMC membership for any future shows than I'll consider joining again but until then...

I get all my Prince information here at prince.org and for free...I knew about the "NEWS" cd here at the org and it was in the shops (Amoeba in Hollywood for $13) the same week NPGMC members were receiving theirs in the mail...

That means that the man doesn't want new fans.

thank you for this thread fauxnewbie!

After about the 2nd week of the latest NPGMC start-up, I realized that wasn't a place I needed to be. I check it out every month or so to see if anything interesting is happening. But, every time I've been uncomfortable with what I've found in the forums and bored with the rest of the site. So, I don't go back for a while.

I spose we all have to have hobbies, but obsessing over the NPGMC ain't ever gonna be mine.

In the end all, it can be fun to complain, but we all should know by now that the man ain't gonna listen to a damn thing we say.

Each one of us has the power to control our 'prince-lives.' This ongoing drought of (IMO) good material and onslaught of crazy antics has made some changes in me. For the 1st time EVER with NEWS, I didn't pre-order and didn't buy it for a few weeks till I found it cheap. I have yet to purchase the live DVD. Those are the choices I can make and the consequences of his ongoing behaviors/choices...

This is Prince and this all could change, but till it does, I'll keep my ass on the Org and ignore the NPGMC...

...as a disclaimer, this only refers to my feelings on the NPGMC as a whole and in no way reflects on the current Web-Closing Fiasco...

You have the proper attitude. You don't let a lot of the other stuff get to you. That's cool. But I have one question, why did you call him a fucknut? I just don't understand the level of hostility towards him.
