Re: "Mayday!", by KeithyT

On the Kuh-Lubb, Keithy T posted the following (I hope you don't mind that I'm posting it here so that myself and the rest of the banished ones can see it too!):

Isn't the Dance Remix of "Little Red Corvette" just the business?

Leaves me in a violet sweat

That's OK blueangel. I only managed to get a copy recently. It's like new music to me. This is what keeps me going, every time I hear a piece of Prince music I haven't heard before.

Man! I so wish I had been into Prince in the early to mid-eighties.

I hear ya...luckily I got into him for the first time right when 1999 came out...the thing is though, I was too young and stupid to realize that the singles had longer versions of the songs (Kiss, Mountains, AnotherLover, etc) than the albums did...so for YEARS I only heard the album versions of almost all of his 80's work (except I DID have the Eye Wish U Heaven 12", which of course is killer)...

It wasn't until 1998 (and courtesy of DownLowRecords...anyone remember them?) that I for the first time heard the full-length singles and b-sides, including Paisley Park, complete with dolphin sounds and slammin' guitar. And it was literally like a whole new world opened up for me, in terms of my love for Prince music.

I have never heard the Lovesexy 12” singles including the full versions of Glam Slam and Escape, I Wish U Heaven (that’s in 3 parts right?) , The Alphabet St (This Is Not Music This Is A Trip)12” mix although I have heard a bit of it.

I wouldn’t even know where to start to get some of this stuff. I am no longer in contact with one of my friends (the only fellow Prince fan I knew) who had a lot of taped stuff that I copied from him. I should have been more greedy and taped it all off him. I’m hoping that some of this stuff will be released in a re-mastered series one day! wink

I do have some stuff. I recently bought someone’s old Prince collection for £20 and it contained most (if not all) of the German CD singles (you know the Ways of the Pharoah ones) some of which I had a taped copy of anyway. I’m pretty sure I also have all the CD singles of any interest that were released since the Diamonds and Pearls album.
