semi-info about NPGMC future

If u want 2 find anything out about NPGMC, don't go to the messageboard, keep an eye on the chatroom for PPs turning up.

PP4 & PP6 were on yesterday and divulged the following:-

1. There will be no further charge for 2004. Members are still members.

2. There are some new things to be added to the site

3. There is new music on the way and they're seriously looking at sites like Napster & Itunes as models for the club.

4. PP4 was insistent that his main role at Paisley Park was cleaning the windows.

Couldn't get a straight answer about touring yet.

If I remember correctly, once you're in the house, take the first staircase on the left. Then click the door on the left side of the room and that will give you a link to "U Tell Us"

Why look at iTunes music store as a model instead of just releasing through the iTunes music store.

Well one reason is that iTunes is only available to those with a US billing address. NPGMC has members from all around the world.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that change Tuesday. Mini-iPods supposed to come out then.

why not try to reach a broader audience. exclusive content at the iTunes music store would get a lot more visibility than tracks sold at NPGMC. Pepsi is about to give away 100 million tracks at the iTunes Music Store - kicking it off at the super bowl - NPGMC is never going to get that kind of visibility.

also, the iTunes Music Store offers the significant advantage that they have figured out how to do digital rights management correctly. Someone as pirated as Prince has to appreciate that. You're not going to see the AAC files from the iTunes Music Store swapped on the net.

I recently posted a question to the PPs on the U Tell Us message board because I don't use the NPGMC Chat room, asking them to clarify what had been said about new stuff coming in 2004.

Here's the answer. Needless to say I was a little disappointed with the first half of the response. Less so with the second half. (go to town theblueangel wink )

We don't mean 2 "dangle carrots" in front of people. But when we r in the chat, we r having conversations with members about all kinds of things and not "making announcements". Occassionally one of the moderators may make a comment regarding something being worked on, but it's not a 4mal announcement by any stretch. Just conversation. Eye understand ur desire 2 have as much in4mation as u can regarding future plans, but as xperience has shown us, sometimes it's better 2 let things happen as they happen and not make announcements about them 2 far in advance. There r positive and negatives 2 that, but it's 4 the best in the long run. We hope u understand.

Couldn't someone burn the AAC files to CD and then rip back to MP3? I guess since an MP3 like that would be the same as any other you couldn't track that if it happened.
