Lovesign

can someone please tell me the name of the CD that has Lovesign on it? It was a compilation of a number of different artists singing Prince songs. I had it once but lost it in moves...

...and it's out of print, but should be very easy to find cheap right now.

There's a remix of it on Crystal Ball, also.

I love this tape with the funky tunes. Recently i was acused of making :"terroristic threats" for singing along to this song. That wasn't my intent, Prince's music has never been about violence to me. Somehow they'll have to understand that the 1-800-NEW FUNK tape is really about love and getting along.

terrorist threats? Lovesign is an anti-gun/anti-violence song that would have been a huge hit had WB not blocked it's release as a single.

"want the love sign everybody and not the gun"
"make love instead of guns"

I know - it was a planned single - was going to followup the most beautiful girl in the world with it - WB said he couldn't release it though.

"Pop Pop Pop goes the pistol, Bang, Bang, Bang goes the gun." johnwoo headlp

I'd worked for 7 years as an independent abstractor in a local county courthouse. I had many experiences there with 'workplace mobbing.' The Deputy Recorder then told me to wear 'headphones' or 'earplugs' if i did not want to be harassed by disruptive county employees and abstractors from private title companies.

The nature of my work had caused me to uncover some improper government procedure with regard filing of real estate records. Things had to be corrected and it cost some folks a lot of money. And my presence also meant that I was taking a piece of the local abstract companies' financial pie.

So i decided to wear headphones and brought a few cassette tapes. As soon as the "noise" hit a certain level, I would start listening to Prince.

The day in question, I had randomly picked the 1-800 New Funk tape from by bag. I started listening and turned up the music loud enough to cover the loud and belligerent conversations behind me. I was softly singing, and i do mean softly, along with the lyrics. Soon i felt someone shove my shoulder and I was told to turn off the headphones by a county employee. I refused since that is what i was told to do to cover up their disruptive noise and actions. She told me that the 'boss' would be in soon. I said 'fine' and went back to work. reading

When the County Recorder came he told me to leave and not to come back. He said that my music was disturbing his employees. When I tried to contact the County Commissioners and the Affirmative Action Office they would not speak to me. They had been told that I was making "threats" when the above words were heard. I had even stopped signing the moment i realized what i was actually saying. But it took me a few moments because I was concentrating on the chain of title that i was searching. I was not given a chance to speak or explain.

You are correct, sir. It's got that creepy old white guy telling Nona to kill "a local deeJAY...," and she goes, "what's he done that's so wrong?" and creepy white dude says "he's showing people how to do...the love sign..."

Nona looks glam as shit in that video...and Prince has those hilarious symbol zippers on his boots.

One of my favorite Prince lyrics ever:

If you only had one year left to live
What good is the time you spend if you got no love to give?
Let's all get up off the front and find a cause to back
Then we can teach the babies replications of the act.

I miss the days when a new lyric from Prince made my heart sing. Ah well.
