NPGMC offerings thus far are sufficient - really Dont the video clips and mp3s add up to $25 worth?
I have: the Chaka Khan Dont talk to Strangers Reflection - Prince What do u want me 2 do? - Prince I like it there video The video for NEWS the live video for Jam of the Year The long video for Thieves in the Temple if I liked India Aire, there was a clip from her. I am not counting the clips from the Aladdin DVD which were oferred as well. I would have paid $25 for that much in any store so I consider it to be worth the money.

You're allowed to look at these things, but you aren't allowed to download them. (You still CAN, but you aren't supposed to.)
If I put down $25 and told NPGMC they could look at my money but they couldn't take it, do you think it would still be on the table once I turned my back for a moment?

Wait...you'd pay $25 in a store for a two new (mono) mp3s, a mono mp3 of an already released Chaka song (you can buy the whole album for like $7...and should, if you like Chaka and have money to burn), a flash advert for NEWS, and 3 videos? Damn...that's fucking ridiculous...isn't it? $25 bus 2 or 3 full length albums, or a DVD or two of a full concert with bonuses...the club this year has been scraps...maybe as a secret web link on a $15 CD, it would be a good deal. If the CD was any good, that is. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Personally, I think the fact that you even feel the need to ask the question speaks volumes. If you really and truly considered NPGMC worth the money, would you really feel the need to pose the question in the first place? If you're satisfied, then you're satisfied... what is there to discuss? It's almost like you're seeking validation and support which makes me feel like deep down inside, you yourself have doubts. Just my opinion. "You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"

Let's see what goodies I got from my other rave faves this year:
Autographed copy of the long out-of-print Swans album "The Burning World", autographed by the lead singer of Swans: approximately $20 (I got first dibs as a member of the FREE Swans official fan site) An entire LP worth of demo dowloads from the High Llamas' official fan site (admission free - any ol' schnook surfing the web can download 'em). An enormous PDF interview and new desktop wallpapers from Diamanda Galas' fan site (free). A kick-ass animated screensaver of a Sonic Youth concert, free from the official SY fan site. Aladdin Sane desktop wallpaper and screensavers and Ziggy Stardust desktop wallpapers, video files and screensavers, free from the promo sites for this year's Bowie deluxe reissue CD sets. All of these are things I enjoy and use and share with friends and family. I have nothing like that from my NPGMC experience this year. All the Prince stuff I dug on this year was far from exclusive - NEWS and the Live DVD are both available in wrecka stows - and the other stuff was threadbare, poor quality, and not meant for our "permanent" music collections. I'm glad I joined for the sake of owning Rave In2 and for the opportunity to hang out with some cool Chicago folks at the DVD screening, but paying $25 for the privilege of buying Prince product and attending a promotional screening seems a bit silly, don't you think?

Actually, they did release the Reflection MP3 as a 256 kbps stereo mp3 -- "What do you want..." was only available as a listen-only 96 kbps mono mp3, which you could in fact save if you new where to look. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

What I dont get is why Prince would want his OFFICIAL music club and his one true link with his fans to be so crappy.
Would you want it to be a bare bones club if this was your way of saying "you mean alot to me...this is what Im all about - this is from me to you" Whichever way you look at it there could have been so much more...and that isnt just me saying "I wnat more, more, more" This years club has really been nothing more than comparable to a poor tribute site.

To the contrary! I think we need more supporters of the "Arms of Orion" Single!
Please keep it and I hope others follow suit! Actually...I've been toying with the idea of changing my avatar anyway. Either way, it's all swell. theblueangel said: Dauphin said: Avatar squatter!

I agree...I think Arms of Orion is one of his most maligned songs, and I simply ADORE it. Cuz, y'know, since you've been gone I've been looking for a lover in the Sea of Tranquility... The NPGMC is nothing more than an annual fundraiser for Prince.
The club becomes an afterthought and the lowest of his priorities once he's collected everyones money.

Outside of David Bowie, are any of the people/groups you mentioned musical legends in the same category as Prince? If not, I think that makes a difference in what is free, available for download, etc.

Plenty of them are far more respected amongst musicians than Prince. beautifulone7 said: If not, I think that makes a difference in what is free, available for download, etc.
Why? It's all about CUSTOMER RELATIONS. REM know this. Pearl Jam know this. They LIKE their fans, they know that those are the people that allow them to be a musician 24/7 and thus they occasionally return the favor. PJ didn't like the actions of bootleggers and what did they do: moan and whine about it? Hell no, they simply outdid the bootlegger at their own game: allowed fans to tape & trade, and later on simply released every concert themselves in excellent quality without any edits or touch-ups. That is how you do it. © Bart Van Hemelen

Exactly...who would walk into a store and pay $25 for a couple mp3s and a Flash advertisement and a few (I mean a FEW) other videos that you can watch on your computer?
Plus, keep in mind...everyone who has downloaded for their personal use ANYTHING except for "Reflection" has broken the club's explicit rules banning the downloading of these materials. At least if I bought the shit in the store, they wouldn't call me a crook when I wanted to keep it. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Most of the folks I listed may have a fraction of Prince's mainstream praise, yet they manage to find cool stuff to share with their fans. Oh, and Tina Weymouth helps to moderate the official Talking Heads site bulletin board - she answers questions and chats with members regularly. And she's a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
