Ripped from the NPGMC: for The Banished Ones

I figure those of us who've paid for our membership should be able to read the news when there finally is some, right PoomPoom? wink

Looks like we know Takumi's screen name...he's such a cool guy, it's amazing he's lasted so long in that camp. Even the Princebonics is hardly annoying...and hell, PeePee9 probably added those on his own. Didn'tcha, Sammie?

These r the kinda shows that make being on the road with The NPG F-U-N!! Prince was straight clownin' (somebody else can fill u'all in.) Not sure if it was the break that they had but his VOCALS were off coat rack! He was hittin' notes higher than we EVER heard him hit b4. Can somebody say- "The Beautiful Ones"... Highlites include "The Ride" (oldie but a goodie) as well as a new and improved D.M.S.R. (complete with horn lines from The Time's "Tricky"). "CONTROVERSY" was just 4 words: RE-DIC - AH - LOUS! Maceo Parker did what sounded like the solo from "Mother Popcorn" & Prince just shook all the Royal Crown loose from his scalp!
People listen, if this is a warm-up gig 4 the Amercian leg of the tour: 4get 1984-5 This may very well b his crowning moment...u heard it here first. What?

I HIGHLY doubt that Takumi wrote that review as he doesn't even really like Prince's music and he is not the gushing kind of guy. From all the interactions I've ever had with him (Just at the PP parties of course)I have never gotten the idea that he would type with the ebonics as he is not a FAM, but yes he is a very cool

Hmmm...interesting. I guess there are other guitar techs? At any rate, one thing's for sure...if Prince doesn't tour the states soon, I for one will hold TEKON6STRINGS and PeePee9 accountable. wink

PrimordialOoze

These kind of overly fawning reviews full of hyper-praise always make me feel like I'm on the receiving end of an oily used car salesman's sales pitch.

What was the point behind the making of this little comment? (as if I didn't know..)

They're sure working hard over there at the NPGMC to show Prince ain't interested in anything having to do with that part of his career; you people thinking 2004 is gonna be so full of Purple Rain anniversary hoopla or related stuff are going to be disappointed.

What I want to know is, WHAT tour? I have seen the Hits a billion times... what will he tour with? NEWS? I love the man, but depending on the setlist I may skip the show and go directly to the aftershow. Hmmm, I'll have to check the australian tracklist. I hate that 30 second crap...

Anxiety

Enough with the hits tours already. I'm about to go on a whining whinging whiney whinge rampage here, so put on your dancin' shoes. He's been doing this same kind of crap live ever since the JOTY tour, when he had THREE FULL DISCS of new material to play, but no no no, we had to get half of this song, half of that song, and a fraction of another that we've heard a kajillion times all over the place. And he's been doing it ever since, with maybe a bit of a reprieve during the ONA tour, when he at least chose a couple of DIFFERENT molden oldies and played 'em all the way through.

And, okay, fine: the B52s do the same thing. You see them at the county fair or at a New Year's party show and you want to hear Rock Lobster. You want Love Shack. You don't want obscure new shit - you want the HITS. And seeing as how they don't record new music anymore, they've accepted this as their lot in life and they give people what they want and everyone seems to be happy with the arrangement.

Then there's Prince with his "suspend xpectations", moving-forward schpiel. Yeah. Until that fails to make him the money he's used to. Then it's okay to be a nostalgia act for a while, I suppose.

But it's NOT okay to talk about vault recordings, or want Prince to work with past collaborators, or hope for reissues of the classic albums, because, you know, Prince has MOVED ON.

Hmm.

Has he?

Prince seems more stuck in the past than anyone, actually.

For someone who allegedly doesn't care about the past, doesn't want to relive it, doesn't want to meet people from his past, doesn't want anything to do with it...

He sure spends alot of time and energy on playing OLD songs and doing HITS tours , He did one in 1990, he did one in 1993, he did one again in 1997 (sort of), and again 2000, 2001 and now again in 2003, and most likely 2004 as well !!

How many times is he gonna RETIRE the hits ?
Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

So Takumi...doesn't like his boss's music?
This is hard to believe, after working for PRINCE, for so long, he's gotta be a fan now!

I've seen him dancing and getting into the music many times...so how is it he doesn't like any of PRINCE'S music...thats a LIE!

When I was right next to Takumi during the ONA show I went to, he seemed pretty into the music...mind you, he was intent on his task, but still...his head was bobbin', SPECially to the heavy guitar numbers, of which there were plenty that night.

I think at times he gets upset. I remember once after a show someone asked him for a pick or something and he was like holding the symbol guitar and saying he would let them have it if he had the power to do so - he would let them walk outta the place with it! he didn't give a damn! He seems edgy at times. Friendly fellow, still I think he does not see the point in the fans wanting shit like guitar picks. He said Prince is tough on him about stuff like that, giving picks away etc! At the Philly show, Hayes and Najee talked with fans for anyone who hung around afterwords. Najee even played happybday for some chick, fuckin cool guy. Other musicians I know are like why should I give you some sticks! they cost $5 its like your asking me "can I have $5!" and then you get fans that are like "Can I have your jacket! its cool!"
