Another brilliant business move by Prince. Charge people twice for the same music, rather than give them any choice in the matter. At least the surviving Beatles are changing Let it Be before they re-release it.

Predictably, the fanatics are shouting their usual chorus of "If you don't like it, don't join," only with the updated lyrics "If you don't like it, don't buy it." Would it have been sooo hard for Prince to release 7 individual CDs so that members could pick and choose and avoid duplicates in their collections?

I guess I am one of the "fanatics" you mention doomboogie but maybe Prince will release 7 individual CDs too. I know the ad says "one package" but you never know. We don't even have a release date yet.

I've watched that pop up 9 times. It's turning me on big time. I love Prince's new music. I badly want the NPGMC discs. One nite alone is one of my favorite albums but all I've got is a naff looking CD-R so that would be great. BTW, What's The C note?

Hasnt Prince released more new CDs than just about any pop star over the last few years? How can you expect 7 new CDs so soon after a box set that just came out? Granted there are previously released cuts on this project, there is the option to pass for those that have them.

I recall an uproar from people who coldnt download C Note and Xpectation - now here it is on disc. It may serve the greater number of people to have this set.

Name another artist who has released as much new music as Prince ? Ok... all of them.. every last one.

The only genuinely worthwhile CD was Rainbow Children. Everything else during my time as an NPGMC member has been rushed, dismal, weak, and shameful even for a b-side material.

You seriously class a live box as NEW material ? Are you for real ?

Bowie just released 2 albums in the space of 12 months, Heathen and Reality, and both have gathered critical and fan acclaim.

And they're not "pop" albums either, they stand up against his classic albums from the 70's.

It can be done.

Don't pretend that CNOTE, One Nite Alone, One Nite Alone live, and a handful of torturous download MP3s that would have been an embarrassment on any released CD constitute new music.

I follow what Bowie does, love his new music. It seems like to me he reached a place in his life where he wants to get a bunch of work done! Its exciting to listen to his music lately, great stuff.

OK I bet soembody has said it already...but arent they just re-selling year 1 and 2?

Quite frankly I couldnt give a monkeys ass because Ive lost all my year 1 and 2 things in a virus-attack on my computer so I dont mind paying again because, evrytime I try and download them, some ass wipe of a Prince psycho always slips me a virus file with a stupid message about not copying his music and how I should join the club.

The only thing is its gonna be expensive - it cant be any less that $300 surely?!

As someone who didn't buy a sub to Y1 - because of the problems with my internet connection - I'm really glad I'll be able to get these tracks, presumably in CD quality, with proper packaging etc.

If you've already got/heard the tracks, then don't buy this! Seems so simple! biggrin Don't complain because he's releasing something you personally don't want, it doesn't mean nothing else is on the way.

As for getting the CDs individually, you can always buy the set and flog the ones you don't want on Ebay (probably making a profit too!)

Seems like a VERY reasonable price too, presumably reflecting the "already released" nature of the music, and the fact it's cheaper to produce a box-set of 7 CDs than the total of 7 individual CDs.

your own opening statement contradicts your argument. for one, he isn't charging anyone twice. he is selling a product, which there is a charge to purchase. for those who don't have this music, they aren't being charged twice. and if you do have the music, then you are only being charged for it twice if you decide to buy it. this is a key phrase, so I'll say it again: you are only being charged twice for it if you decide to buy it.. merely selling a product does not qualify charging a potential customer for it, in the sense that you are implying, that the customer has no choice but to purchase it. if that was the case, you would be right. that is not the case.

the difference between what we are talking about is who's choice it is. the purchase to be charged twice is not Prince's decision, it your choice, not his. so choose wisely, because only you allow yourself to be charged twice, Prince isn't doing anything. is having his music that important to you that you will hand him your money...again, for practically the same product?

if you are a completist, and I am assuming you may be by the way you refer to your music as your "collection," who feels he has to have every Prince release and must buy this even though you already have the music, that is your problem, not Prince's. how about not buying the set. I'm not. I have the music already, and it doens't bother me one bit that he is selling it.

and just to sho you I am a good sport, if you are missing any of the music offeed in the first two years of the club, org note me and I'll hook you up, then you won't have to buy the set and duplicate your "collection," in order to get what you are missing. this of course will be a happy solution to you if you are only interestd in acquiring the music. but if your need is not just the music but owning the "official" cd's, I can't help you, and neither can Prince. so don't blame him.
this message brought to you by logic.

Exactly. First we got the downloads, then we got the album
then we got the album AGAIN with the ONA package and now
oh mercifull god, we're gonna get it AGAIN with the CI box.

That's 4 times -and counting.

Cuz, if you think that's tripped out, just think of the
amount of times we've been offered "Silicon", which now
seems to have been re-dubbed "Slaughterhouse" in a weird
attempt to re-sell it again.

It's a loop people, a looplooplooplooploop.

I dont care much for ONA...infact I think its rubbish - maybe I just dont understand it..so I wont be too enthusastic to get my hands on and pay for my 3rd copy.

HOWEVER...

Im very much looking forward to re-owning the downloads and getting to hear the Soundchecks and The War for the first time.

This is more like it (although you can bet your last dollar that it will cost...your last dollar!!! $300?? maybe) and, like everything, it bound to have its fair share of peopel against it but,for me, this is the first opportunity to get some quality OFFICIAL stuff from the club (altho ONA live is cool)

$300 for a 7 cd set comes to $43 per cd.
If you really believe it could be priced this high I think you are in for a very pleasant surprise when the price is announced because it is sure to be much less than $300. Just pricing at $18 per cd only equals $126.

We're looking at this from the wrong viewpoint. I reckon this is just to stop the bootleggers. I hate seeing official Prince music on bootlegs and I'm sure it riles Prince. Why should the bootleggers be the ones making the money on the NPGMC material?

My wild stab at a price guess was purely based on how much year 1 and 2 cost plus a bit more for the other stuff that didnt make up year 1 and 2...logoically I suppose $300 is too much...but who knows

This is too funny...

You know,.. in the past two years Prince's club is becoming the musical laughing stock of the internet. And it just keeps on getting funnier. It ain't over!

Next he'll be charging members to clean out his warehouse of stuff that wouldn't sell at a flea market.
