Chocolate Invasion - Price???

So what kind of price are people feeling for this set?
Prince's past releases don't follow any pattern:
N.E.W.S. was $9 for one disc.
The War was $25 for one disc.
NPS box set was $21 for 3 cds or $7 per disc.
ONAL was $50 for 3 cds or $16.67 per disc.
Crystal Ball was $50 for 5 cds or $10 per disc.
The Chocolate Invasion could be anywhere from $50 to $125.

Consider this: Bob Dylan just released a remastered box set of 15 cds for $225 or $15 per disc.

You are joking - $150 - its going to be atleast $200-$300 surely.

Can you imagine the outcry if there is an official cd with years 1 and 2 trax on it plus more...for less than those 2 years mad

The strange thing would be if it was only available through the club...that would mean it was either aimed at people only joining year 3 or deliberately trying to repackage years 1 &2...because nobody except members would be able to get it. This is going to be his climb back to big-time recognition if its available in the shops!!! (not sure if thats a good thing or not)

Plus the fact that things tend to be fairly expensive from the club..in my experience.

I think I will probably hang on when it comes out to see if i can buy it elsewhere...unless of course its limited edition.

I got NEWS for £4.99 from my local record shop and they are currently selling the ONA Live box set for £19.99 which isnt bad I dont think.

Wait, y'all are serious?! I hope most people wouldn't pay that much. This whole Prince thing is getting too expensive for me lately.

A $200 box set works out to about $29 per cd - who is going to pay that? No one thats who. $200 is way too high a guess. Prince is eccentric not insane

Get ready for the outcry because I can't see this collection being more than $75. Except for ONAL most of Prince's cds have been reasonably priced.

The strange thing would be if it was only available through the club...that would mean it was either aimed at people only joining year 3 or deliberately trying to repackage years 1 &2...because nobody except members would be able to get it.

Bingo - what an idea - music only available thru the NPGMC.

This is going to be his climb back to big-time recognition if its available in the shops!!! (not sure if thats a good thing or not)

Dream on little dreamer - this is a boxset for extreme fans only. You have to be really devoted to buy a 7 cd set of any musician. This is no project to boost his popularity. Its more a shut the bootleggers off at the pass project like Crystal Ball.

Plus the fact that things tend to be fairly expensive from the club..in my experience.

Prices vary at NPGMC. Somethings are high & some are more reasonable. Emancipation & Crystal Ball averaged about $10 per cd. Its the shipping that kills the cost.

I think I will probably hang on when it comes out to see if i can buy it elsewhere...unless of course its limited edition.

The Chocolate Invasion has been made in response to 'Fam'
demand. It's the members who have been pestering NPGMC
to release the previously download-only material on CD.
So that's what they've done.
Simple really.

Though it has to be said that the original plan was to make all
the CDs available seperately. I suspect that it was a financial
decision to make it all one big box set. That way they sell the
exact same amount of each CD, rather than risk being left
with loads of overstocks of some of them while selling out
of others.

i think it's a great idea they make those year one and two downloads available to people on CD. there are some hits on there if he wanted to make them that.

i loved the structure of the emancipation and crystal ball releases.

Yep. And you have to subscribe to another annual donation of 150$ for a period of ten years to buy out his masters from WB:

http://www.prince.org/msg/13/67118

In case you die before your subscription reached its end your heirs are obliged to fulfil the contract. It's up to you and them if you decide to write 'SLAVE' on your cheek.

It won't be possible to unsubscribe. If you decide to not pay anymore, JW's will come a-knocking at your door. Either they may persuade you to convert to the JW's instead of subscribing or they will present you with the very special award of an electric purple scooter much the kind P used in HK... well, broken legs can be very annoying.

Eye usually frown on cross posting...but...

7 CD set price should be $79.99 for non members

$74.99 for current members
$59.99 for 2 time members
$49.99 for members all 3 years

Actually, this is probably a bad idea, but as a member of all 3 years, it seems like Prince could care less about customer loyalty. Also, his website needs to have a section for NON members. It just brings up that "The World Is Flat" "Black People Like Chicken." garbage. The point of having a club is to get members. That intro, and horrible navagation, make the site cumbersome. I love Prince, but he really could have a nice free site, with some teasers to get members...like members-only pricing, members only downloads, members only CD purchases of full concerts on CD, customer loyalty pricing, and even the ability to purchase cheap seats at concerts! That horrible band Blink 182, and no you can't convince me they are even at the level of Third Eye Blind...they're pretty bad, but they have been touring clubs for $1. Prince could afford the good publicity to have some cheap shows.$150 ticket prices won't get any new fans...oh well, that's my 2 cents...
