The best of O{+>, and Last December

What exactly happened here. Members of NPGMC2 were promised 4 CDs but instead got 1, and some MP3s. How were members compensated? Did they get some money refunded or ONA at a discount price or something?

Well, I got 4 DISCS, not 4 ALBUMS as I originally understood. Personally I was hoping for that Madrid to Chicago album that was hinted at in year 1, but c'est la vie.
Funny though, were the discs meant to be sent out individually over the year? I rejoined a month or so in, and was informed that my disc ONA piano would be sent out when the 2nd disc was sent to all members, then received the box set with ONA piano included. I guess that's why I only received the one copy, when folks who rejoined straight away got two.
Seems to me Prince must have changed his mind on the other "albums" and decided to put the box set out instead, using the same calculation methods that made Emacipation 3 x platinum ie each disc a seperate release! So technically the premium membership obligation was fulfilled.
ONA live and the aftershow disc isn't a patch on the bootleg shows I own, so I was a bit disapointed. Xpectation blew me away though, so I kind of forgave the funny little man.

I cant believe motherfuckers are still crying about what they didnt get last year. If you joined the club just to get free CDs, then you got what you deserved. 4 CDs were promised and 4 CDs were delivered.

Not this AGAIN! Here's what we got: ONA, ONA Live (some with ONA (Piano) in it), Xpectation (download) and C-Note (download). That's four albums. I was very happy with this.

This year still sucks though.

Umm, we didn't "get" C Note. Members were emailed a link for one of the C note tracks depending on their location. Those of us that have all of C note got it through sharing the links here or through file sharing. As I said above, I think the membership obligation was fulfilled with ONA and ONA Live. 4 discs. Xpectation and Empty Room (my C note dl) were bonuses.

They did fulfill their obligation and I was happy in the end.

I must admit to expecting four seperate albums though and I think that if we had taken a poll at the start of the year, then everyone would have been expecting, four seperate deliveries through the year.

Can anyone honestly say that they were expecting to receive one CD and a live album and that it would have fulfilled their pre-year expectations?
RIP sad

OH COME ON!!!

Prince has been talking cryptic for years "May you live 2 see the dawn", "Its just around the corner", "aint nothin' but a muffin..."

Did you really think that "4cd" would mean 4 high quality seperate albums...the way Prince is handling thing in recent years Id just be grateful that you didnt literally get 4 cd ...with nothing on them.

Granted he did say that members would receive a bonus disc and even I didnt think it would be ONA again

on the other hand if C-note and Xpectation were included as 2 of the albums then I never got those because I didnt get the link to download them and didnt seem to be able to access them through my normal account (as you would with the year 1 downloads)...never mind by the look of it they'll be in Chocolat Invasion so I will get them eventually

The best of O{+> was Gold! and Last December was on TRC! So in a way he did already! A loop is a loop is a loop! I think sometimes the waiting is the hardest part, so I found many other artists that are just as cool IMO, so I'm content with what I get from Prince. If there were no cds at all I would have been upset and everyone wanted live shit for years. Now onto the new box: I suppose a lot of fans did request Y1 and Y2 so why not sell that stuff? I just hope maybe someday the Undertaker is release for good, but then again people will grumble!! I already bought that from a bootlegger!! Kinda like when Crystal Ball was released.. people were like I already got that from a bootlegger. Looking back now looks like Prince is selling us music twice!! Found another way to bootleg before the bootleggers bootleggin..awe I'm confused!

Well depends how you look at it.
As an NPGMC member yes it was received for free.
You had to pay for membership but that is really a different issue.

we didn't pay any extra for those 4 discs - if thats what you mean.

Anxiety

NPGMC didn't follow up on its offer last year. What I was led to believe I'd be getting for my money was not what I got.

"Xpectation" and "C-NOTE" were merely salves on the enormous amounts of complaints from club members, and even though many of us didn't get the C-NOTE downloads, Xpectation was (in my opinion, anyway) sufficiently brilliant enough to assuage any hard feelings. The subsequent cheaper membership fee this year further softened my hard feelings.

Let's face it - the music industry is getting to a point where multi-disc sets are considered ONE release. Regardless of RIAA guidelines and whatnot, double disc sets are more often than not being offered at single-disc prices. Would you be satisfied if you only had disc one of ONA Live? I truly doubt it. That said, I still think the retail pricing of ONA Live was completely unrealistic, even for last year's market, and was so priced to prove to NPGMC members that we were getting some form of "value".

The bottom line for me is, on a level of artistry, I was satisfied with last year's NPGMC. On a level of good business, I was sorely disappointed.

And so it goes...

The bottom line is.. Prince changes his mind.
Always has, always will.

The original plan WAS to send out 4 seperate CDs over
the course of the year...

One Nite Alone...
Xenophobia
Last December
The Very Best Of prince

But the plan was changed halfway through the year, and
instead we got

One Nite Alone...
One Nite Alone... Live! (3 cd set)

which fulfilled the 4 cd obligation (albeit in a way we were
not expecting, and on the whole were not overly happy about)
plus Xpectation as a download (the Xenophobia album minus
the title track).

Now there are any number of possibilities as to why the 3
original albums were pulled, but it has to be said that it's
quite possible that they were pulled because of US!!

It has to be said that there was a huge backlash of
disatisfaction about One Nite Alone (the piano album) when
it was shipped, and again when the 3 other album titles
were made known. Considering that no-one had even heard
the other albums at that time, it was quite vitriolic. I wouldn't
be at all suprised if Prince decided to replace the 3 original
albums with a live set because he felt it would be far better
recieved by us! Fans had been pestering for a live album for
years, so I suspect he thought he was actually giving us what
we wanted. It's a shame really, cuz I was really looking forward
to the originally planned releases.

Well, in the end the only thing that never got any kind of release
was "The Very Best Of prince". The other albums did finally
surface in one form or another.

At one of the soundchecks after ONA piano cd was released someone asked if there was going to be a live album released soon! Prince said 'Yes there will' in a voice- (that now I think back to)- knew the plan had been changed! With that given, the show was recorded and one of the songs ended up on ONA live.

'Last December' was an early version of 'One Nite Alone...Live!'
The tracklist is not known, and it is quite possible that it was
in fact an early version of 'It Ain't Over' (i.e. a collection of
aftershow performances rather than a collection of the main
shows). All I know is that it was a live album, allegedly
recorded 'last december' on the One Nite Alone tour.
