What does the npgmc give you that you can't get from the org?

I've been reading the thread posted in another forum about the guy who went to a party and couldn't dance with the girl he wanted to because she was dancing with other guys.

And then I read a thread about someone who got banned because they'd been critical of the npgmc in one of the forums.

And now I'm wondering. What are you all getting from it? If he's not touring in your country, how are you really benefiting? Are you getting music/publications you can't get elsewhere? Do you have an enhanced sense of being a member of "his" community?

All I see is a lot of fans getting a lot of grief and those who dare to speak out against the npgmc in anyway get "terminated" ... remind you of anything?

And besides, if what Anji says is right, you've got a better chance of talking to him if you're a member of the Org anyway.

What am I missing? Please enlighten me.

NEWS prerelease-live lasV dvd prerelease-I like it there video-Thieves Temple video-reflections mp3-screening for the dvd.

Y1 and Y2 were more fun IMO, bring back the Celebration and some of the stuff from Y1..but overall I'll hang in there, maybe something more will surface, if not getting the dvd and cd were cool even if shelled out for it again, heck $25 is 2 pizzas!

Anxiety

A measly 25 bucks was worth it for the DVD screening, which I thought was a great little get-together - and there have been perks here and there that I've enjoyed. Of course, other artists could do the same kinds of things for free - and they DO. We're supposed to be grateful that we've been "given" one new song to download this year? You can download nearly a dozen songs at TTD's website.

I don't feel ripped off by the club this year, but if you're not a member, I can't really say that you don't know what you're missing.

We're not.

No.

Do you have an enhanced sense of being a member of "his" community?

No - but you're funny, Rasper.

Anyway, see a pattern developing?

As a UK fan the answer to teh question is...NOTHING (the org is far better).

I dont get emails from NPGMC (I get the preaching crap and adverts though!!), I dont get the cds they send out (anybody still not got Rave yet from year 1?, is anybody waiting for ONA live still?), I dint getteh links for teh soundcheck downloads or Xpectation, and tehy cocked up chances for good tickets teh only time hes toured in the last 3 years (despite teh promise of a tour every time membership is due for renewal), they are rude, they delete posts and, quite frankly, the Club is just a 2d waste of webspace (what I mean is..its all very impressive to look t put serves absoloutely no purpose).

Compare it to here...official/non-official information, freedom of speach, and a 'community' spirit.

Here's a positive take for a change:

The NPGMC is an idea that is constantly changing and growing over time.

It has a highly accessible website which will no doubt procure many new files to download over time.

The org is great, but it is essentially only a message board, albeit the best Prince message board on the net.

The npgmc amongst other things has a message board which often contains many insights direct from the source and many of its members contribute views, which often are interesting and not found on the org.

Those are the things the npgmc give you, apart from access to the best seats, exclusive retail and files that you cannot get anywhere else.

So while we all think it could do with improvements (which I think it can, too) I think it can give you a different fan experience than the org...and for only the price of a good dinner out.

Cheers,
despues.

nothing.I'm not a member but thanks to the wonders of the internet, i got all year 1's MP3's, One nite alone and ONA live, Xpectation, C-Note and reflection.I also went to see him in Manchester last year and even though i'm joe public, managed to get good seats. I haven't missed a damn thing. No point in joining.

Just to show i do support the artist, aswell as going to his gig last year, I bought NEWS and the Aladdin DVD.

Prince would be pleased.

True...but their one consistency is screwing someone over.

It has a highly accessible website which will no doubt procure many new files to download over time.

Any web site with a URL and content is accessible. NPGMC is graphically intensive, which means slow to load and not compliant with web standards. It's also only accessible after you pay $25 to view it.

The org is great, but it is essentially only a message board, albeit the best Prince message board on the net.

A message board, a news source, a gathering place for Prince fans - in every way more reliable than the official site.

The npgmc amongst other things has a message board which often contains many insights direct from the source and many of its members contribute views, which often are interesting and not found on the org.

Insights like the "Harpo" and "Satan's Claws" nonsense? Do you know what happened to the majority of views expressed on the org that were expressed on the NPGMC web site? They were deleted. That is not at all interesting.

Those are the things the npgmc give you, apart from access to the best seats, exclusive retail and files that you cannot get anywhere else.

"Best seats" - often better through Ticketmaster.com, "Exclusive Retail" - available at every Prince show - "Files You Can't Get Anywhere Else" - ooh, you'd be surprised what you can find when you go looking for it.

I want to express regret for my postings yesterday.
I had only rejoined the Prince community and was upset by the stuff I was hearing but I went way too far because nobody really knows whether Prince is responsible for the things that are making people unhappy, ticket prices aside.

There was a similar point of criticism I made after a visit to the NPG shop in London during its brief existence and I went on to make the criticism public in a magazine which Prince read. Although the item had been edited to make it more offensive than my actual words had been (via ommission of context etc), I know for a fact that Prince was personally hurt by this.
It was an error that I had, ultimately, to honour as a hidden intention, if that makes any sense to anyone at all.

I'm a provocative type of person sometimes while being an acutely sensitive one at others. I can give criticism and than can't take it. This is called 'humanity'

But it was hypocritical of me to criticise NPGMC for the lack of respect shown (because of their feeling that a lack of respect is shown) and then to top that with a massive lack of respect!

I do respect Prince..immensely. Like others, I hope that what he's doing now makes him happy. If it doesn't then I hope he finds a new muse, a new approach which will.

I called him a 'religious zealot'. Which is just as uncool as it comes. I'm sorry for that. I shouldn't have had those coffees earlier but that's no excuse.
I'm retracting, apologising because it's not how I wish to represent myself ultimately.

Whatever he wants to believe in that helps him with whatever he goes through is fine with me.
As in "Whatever gets u through the night, it's alright...it's alright."

So I especially regret what amounted to a personal attack on him at the end of the posting I made.
And on the subject of the NPGMC, I guess it's fair to balance all criticism with the fact that this forum makes the criticism available for anyone, including the NPGMC, who wishes to take account of it.

Once again, to anyone who felt personally affronted by my postings yesterday, I apologise.
