Why does NPGMC exist?

I only ask this question because in mine (and my friends) experience anything Princely works best when run by an external force.

For example Princes music seemed to be a lot more focussed when he was directed by WB - was it teh fact that they only put out the things taht would sell or was it the fact that he had somebody to answer to.

But I suppose teh main reason I find myself asking this question is the fan club situation.

In the days of Controversy Fanclub you knew what to expect..a regular magazine and a good link. There was not a single tour that went buy whilst Controversy was running where I didnt have seats withing the first 6 rows of gig, personal views were respected and printed and I always got the feeling of respect form them. But then it went downhill Controversy got pulled in favour of the New Powere Generation fanclub; run by Paisley Park (or somebody official)...this is where ifirst started to have my doubts.

I signed up for this fanclub but only ever received two (very thin) issues.

Then again it seemed to slip when the NPGMC came out...sure teh content was great in year 1 (although tehre were some dublication of material) but what the hell has happened with gigs - They messed up my priority tickets so badly that I had to get virtually back row seats from Ticketmaster!!!

Now akll we seem to get is silence or banned, Prince (or whoever) does teh very very bare minimum yet the NPGMC is billed as his big link with the fans...is this really all he thinks of them???

Ah bring back the good old days where somebody else held the reigns

NPGMC is a half-baked money making scheme to cash in on the fanaticism of his remaining fanbase and the dwindling novelty of the internet.

Oh, shit the NPG never put a gun to my head to join. I can't complain about the dvd this year and the downloads were cool. The years not done yet and I would not be stupid with my money spending them on seats! So overall can't complain here.

Yes TRC is good in places but ..c'mon "a feast a feast..." and thats just one albumn since hes been "free" lets look at the rest :

ONA - Crap!!!
Xpectation - Confused and Crap
NEWS - 75% Crap
ONA Live - playing safe

Downloads from Year 1...a collection of newish songs (good), lifted from original WB trax (good the first time i bouight them) and stuff by other people (???)

Now compare that % wise for teh releases under WB...Id say,in terms of qulaity, the older stuff is more focussed.

TRC is Prince focussing on Prince...seeing just how far up his own ass he can focus. There are soem good trax (Family Name, Evelasting Now, Last December, She Loves Me 4 Me) but take out teh pap and you have yourself one expensive single

I think I disagree with everything you've ever posted about Prince.

In particular, NONE of those records were "crap". Open up your heart and ears and stop living in the past.

I wouldn't call NPGMC a fan club..

Controversy was an early and powerful Prince Music community that revolved around what was fun and exciting about the art back when he was a big star.

Today the deep blue underground as he calls it is just temporarily being used as a utility for whatever he's putzing around with at the moment.

At the moment its religious fanaticism and brainwashing..
But in Prince's reality, he really believes in his mind that he is doing the work. Good for him.

Tomorrow it will be something different. wink

I dont think Im living in th past just because I dont like what hes doing at the moment...I have to compare it to something and, by what I know Prince can do, those albums were crap. They just have a feel of "oh well better put something down on CD is suppose"

NEWS is absoloutely rushed to buggery, ONA just doesnt work (for me) its not that its different and I love Prince at the Piano...its just that they sound like a bunch of outakes.

TRC is the closest Prince has come to making a good album since he thought he could go it alone.

Its just my opinion - there are thousands of peopel that will love everything he has and ever will do - I guess Im jsut not in that deep anymore

you call the focused?? There were maybe 3 tunes the most that were good (not great) and the rest were just substandard dribil.

He still is an amazing musician but the repetitveness of his new work starting to take it's toll on my life for his new stuff. N.E.W.S. was a nice experiment but hardly anything special. To me the power and the feeling that he put into his earlier work is truly missing from his recent recordings. Now he sound like he is trying too hard to not be the same and in the end it is causing him to be the same. You know, The more things change the more they stay the same.

This is my opinion though, I know many of you love what he is doing now and feel it is his best work ever. I respect that. But saying it is the most focus ever is definately not what I am feeling.

He is not living in the past. I sounds like to many of you just want to love the guy so much that if he changed his mind tomorrow and started doing polkas you would say it is he most focused work ever and tell everyone again to stop living in the past. The quality of music in the PAST was leaps and bounds better than the music he is doing now.

All I meant by starting this thread was to voice my opinion that he seems to be failing miserably to the thing he CLAIMS the club was all about - bring people together and provide a better link with the fans.

It seems to me that what hes done is open the door to let everyone in,locked it behind them after promising so much.

I guess what I really mean is that previous way worked do much better so why try and fix it if it aint broke...

Im only speaking from my experience of missing cds, duplicated downloads, fucked up gig tickets and non-God id Almighty religious stance...I prefered teh way that got me front row seats, reguar updates and something that didnt have a stinky undertone that felt like he was trying to sell me something
