Ticketmaster Auction Will Let Highest Bidder Set Concert Prices

It was reported on NPGMC via a link to a NYTimes article that Ticketmaster is moving towards an "auction" model to set ticket prices -- and needless to say the price a Ticketmaster talking head was quoted as saying was $1000.

Here is the actual quote I'm referencing:

"The tickets are worth what they're worth," said John Pleasants, Ticketmaster's president and chief executive. "If somebody wants to charge $50 for a ticket, but it's actually worth $1,000 on eBay, the ticket's worth $1,000. I think more and more, our clients — the promoters, the clients in the buildings and the bands themselves — are saying to themselves, `Maybe that money should be coming to me instead of Bob the Broker.' "

Fleetwood Mac at Brisbane, $200, $150, $93 (AUS dollars)

So $170 isn't too bad?
For 6-15 rows seats.

Dont do it! I think we're seeing why he doesn't have alot of friends, and why is career is hanging by a thread.
You have to separate your musical appreciation for his work from a objective look at what type of person would do something like this.

You people have supported him when no one else would and he repays you like this. He owes YOU! believe it or not.

Money matters now! It sho didnt matter yerterday. Just when you think that you have enough, thats when it all up and fly's away...So steal it from you fans?...Ops I mean family or friends..yeah right!!!

I really feel for you all. I get a nasty feeling this will be the theme for the whole tour. Better start asking for money towards the tickets as Xmas presents.

If you want the VIP option, you pay VIP prices.

The 'standard' ticket prices to experience the standard show minus 'meet and greet', 'pre-show party with refreshments', 'soundcheck access', 'aftershow', 'laminate' and 'ONA Live box-set'are very reasonable.

This is all such a good idea... it is precisely what I wanted for the gigs in London last year. I'd happily pay extra not to queue up like a fucking idiot and stand around for hours. Much nicer to just roll in at the specified time, have a glass of wine, chill out, chat to people, check out the soundcheck etc.

Prince knows his audience, and knows people will definitely pay for a bit more of a "VIP experience". I think it's great.

Last year the club cost $100, so if we got a better deal by default last year, we still paid for it. For $25, I'm sure y'all didn't expect much more than access to Prince's website. That's all I expected.

Agreed.

Oh? So you're saying that they're NOT taking the piss? Sure, I dont expect much for my $25 by any means, (and Im sure Im not alone) but hiking the prices up THAT much out of reach of his FAN-BASE? Come on! YOU DO THE MATH...Frankly, I think its pathetic. He should know better.
Alienation anyone? Free with every ticket purchased.

when for this renewal (which most did in March) did Prince say that the benefits would not be the same as last year or at least indicate that things would be a little different.

So you expected the same thing this year for $25, that last year cost $100?

Most will choose the priority concert seating. Last year we were guaranteed the first 15 rows, with concert ticket prices ranging from $100 to $150 US. The $117 US seems to be offering the same thing.

No way. NO SOUNDCHECK!!!

They have posted a change on the NPGMC, that the Diamond level will ALSO have access to the soundcheck.

That means at $117 US you are getting the same thing that we got last year, at a comparative price.

The higher prices are if you want anything add'l. Obviously if you don't want to take advantage of that add'l stuff you can still enjoy the soundcheck from the first 15 rows just like last year.

But, you know the bad thing about this is that people will bitch, but still pay to see Prince or go to the soundcheck and won't say a damn word on how he is ripping them off. All they will do is sit there and grin lol from ear to ear like nothings going on."Yes Prince is a Hypercrit, but his fans are to!"rolleyes

the bad thing is that they announce this mere hours befoer the tickets go on sale when they KNOW most people wont check the site before ordering tickets.

How convenient this info was omitted from the email.

very convenient for them.

Aren't those "diamond" tickets to be purchased through the "backstage pass" area of the NPGMC website?

No that is not the price of one concert. One concert + soundcheck access is approximately $117 US dollars, which is comparable to what was offered last year.

If, *IF* people would like to get more than what was offered last year, there are additional options with additional costs.

Definitely business-wise it's a smart move - you make people pay for the same CD-Box twice (in most cases I think). And who said Prince is a poor business man? lol

it shouldn't be that way, that's for sure

Because it shouldn't be that way it is not a smart business move. Prince can expect that this kind of whoring himself will cause a lot more (Aussie) fans to stop supporting him financially.

So he should "sell" himself cheaper and be a less expensive "whore"?
lol

lol

Nah, he just shouldnt sell himself at all. I think charging people only to shake your hand and have a quick chat mounts to selling your soul.
