Can you think of any other mechanism that would effectively restrict the number of people that would get onstage for the meet and greet?

How about just meeting him because he feels like being met? He either gets chatty at the sound-check, after performing at an aftershow, you're good looking and get invited to his VIP section of a club, traditional ways like that? Sure, you can't guarantee a meeting, but that's how it is with stars.

I guess it's different depending on where you are. Last year at the NYC ONA show, there were nearly 400 NPGMC members who turned out for the soundcheck. We did not get any chat, any personal or direct crowd interaction because the venue was already 1/3 filled. It was simply TOO CROWDED for any kind of intimate experience like that.

And it's not simply because "that's how it is with stars." It's also how it is with fans, who with the slightest chance would bumrush each other just to get in Prince's face to say "Hi." How are those ppl to be regulated?

Like I said it's unfortunate and not ideal. But money is often one of the most efficient ways to regulate access when numbers need to be limited.

Sure you can. No one is saying you have to purchase any of these "levels" to enjoy a great show.

What is the price for normal tickets?

So the standing and outer ringseats... I think majority of people here are used to those seats... myself included.

And everytime I had a great time, ONA I so twice, both tickets were around 70-75 euro... okay... I wasn't in the first 15 rows... so what?

The concert was great, and that's what counts.

Of course people are always bitching about 'it's not fair, booo-hooo!!'
It's never enough for you guys... 'NAGNAGNAGNAG'

I still love the guy, although there's no way I'm paying that much to sit in front or meet him onstage.

Let me stand in the middle, the place where the real funky people are!

now now, that's not what I was saying at all. I was trying to give "American Fams" perspective on the costs. For general tix prices, only the soundcheck is messed up. That could be fixed at the door, or in a couple days.

The stage thing is new, and several artists are doing this right now. It's a quick and easy $30-50,000 to the artists if their fans are willing to pay.

ONA live being given out is just dumb, I'll agree to that. At least give out the hit n run singles, a lot of people don't have those, esp Australians.

i'll sell my ONALive! on eBay...so i'll get a few biccies back from it.

This is all such a good idea... it is precisely what I wanted for the gigs in London last year. I'd happily pay extra not to queue up like a fucking idiot and stand around for hours. Much nicer to just roll in at the specified time, have a glass of wine, chill out, chat to people, check out the soundcheck etc.

Prince knows his audience, and knows people will definitely pay for a bit more of a "VIP experience". I think it's great.

Last year the club cost $100, so if we got a better deal by default last year, we still paid for it. For $25, I'm sure y'all didn't expect much more than access to Prince's website. That's all I expected.

Of course, I've only just found out how much 995 australian dollars is in real money omg Ah well, it's a premium service, those who can afford it will surely enjoy themselves. Very lucrative for Prince too - that along with merchandise sales, t-shirts etc will make the tour very profitable I would imagine. So we can probably further tours I'd imagine... hopefully we'll get to see him back in the Europe soon.

for me the one thing that drives people mad (and it would apply to me as well) is that the cheapest option doesn't include the soundcheck. And in order to get into a soundcheck one must pay USD 265 (approx.) a part of which goes to ONA Live Box set which, as I suppose, is already owned by many Austrialian members.

Definitely business-wise it's a smart move - you make people pay for the same CD-Box twice (in most cases I think). And who said Prince is a poor business man? lol

it shouldn't be that way, that's for sure

Because it shouldn't be that way it is not a smart business move. Prince can expect that this kind of whoring himself will cause a lot more (Aussie) fans to stop supporting him financially.

"I got a job, why don't y'all get a job? It's a dishonest one, but..."

Christopher Tracy says this to the street urchins who crowd his car as he arrives home near the beginning of Under the Cherry Moon

"RENT'S DUE CUZZIN'!"

One of the notes to Christopher Tracy, from Tricky, in Under the Cherry Moon, said this, hoping to encourage C.T. (Prince) to hurry up and get down to 'business' with the wealthy Mrs. Wellington.

From a logistical perspective, it seems that they have chosen to transfer the "limitedness" of the perq from the cost of the membership to the cost of the ticket, which seems to be what people were asking for... in the case of those who could not take advantage of those concert perqs. A base-membership fee, with everything else being a la carte: if you want cds, they'll be offered first to you at a relative discount IF YOU CHOOSE TO BUY IT; if you want to go to a show, there will be different levels of access granted with different options of prices so you have a CHOICE.

Yeah, choose the least painfull way of being screwed.

Last year ALL MEMBERS paid for the perqs even though they couldn't take advantage of them. This year it seems, that you will only have to pay for what you want.

But on a WAY different pay scale.

Most will choose the priority concert seating. Last year we were guaranteed the first 15 rows, with concert ticket prices ranging from $100 to $150 US. The $117 US seems to be offering the same thing.

No way. NO SOUNDCHECK!!!

That may indeed be the case, but once again, you as a consumer have choices. They are not the same as last year, but they are choices nonetheless that cover a wide price range to accommodate people's resources and interests.

Choices?

Are you Princes new attorney?

Putting aside that many of us have been members since the start, when for this renewal (which most did in March) did Prince say that the benefits would not be the same as last year or at least indicate that things would be a little different.

I've funded everyone in the worlds cheapies now i'm being screwed.

I have the right to complain.

Alright, my last post sounds whiny. I'm still pissed off.

Someone tell me that $250 for a VIP for us members would not have been more fair and reasonable. That's $165 USD on top of the $25 USD membership.

Explain that to me when noting he is playing 12000 venues and not 2000-3000 places that many of you saw him in.

This is my main problem. I'd just like the first 15 rows seating and access to the soundcheck. I don't particularly care about first 5 rows and I definitely don't want 3 copies of ONA Live.

Great if it is true, but that info conflicts with the official post. Maybe they're backing down? They need to update that official post to let peeps know exactly where they stand!

Vague memory. . .preacher. . .lexus coupe. . .pinstripe suit. . .what came after that? One hopes that these prices (and going through ClearChannel?!) mark the return to being a pop star and not a preacher. Because it would be very, very sad for Prince to become a little pinstriped hypocrite. omg wink

I can't imagine wanting to meet him when you know he's just talking to you 'cause you paid him $1000. May I suggest that if he uses your very expensive moment with him to try to tell you to follow his religion, you should take the rest of your very expensive moment with him to scratch his eyes out? Or at least steal his shoes and sell 'em on ebay so you can get your money back. nod

I have no doubt that all of those tickets, at all prices, will sell out. I hope people have a good time. But for gawds sake, if you are one of the people who is gonna pay the prices, then please stop complaining right this instant.
