Chicago Screening - Wotta Party

Just got in from the Chicago screening, where I had a blast with Stymie and Youngca, and got to meet a few other Orgers - I'll agree that the quality of the footage could have been better, but the performance was much better than I'd anticipated and it was nice to see Sheila E. dragging her cymbal across the stage during "Pass the Peas"...and there was even a lucky audience member from the DVD in the house! (I'll let her tell her own story, but she showed up in the same duds she wore in the film - too funny)

The projectionist chose not to play the bonus track of "The Ride", which elicited more than a few moans and boos from the house, but other than that, everyone seemed to have a blast.

Were there any posters and tickets given out?

See, he's only asking so that he can know how much he should charge on e-bay for the 13 or so posters he took from the NYC screening. He's totally not being his usual LaMonty self.

Anx, Stymie, just2bnasty, youngca et al...glad you guys had a hoot! I knew you would...was less than thrilled that I couldn't be there this evening, heh.

So guys, what was the musical highlight of the show for you? Did he tear up the blue angel or WHUT?

He quite LITERALLY tore up The Blue Angel...I thought he was gonna set his hankie on fire when he set it on top of the guitar, and pull a Jimi Hendrix or something. That whole part of the show reminded me of the Letterman performance of "Dolphin" - very "what the...?!?"

As for the posters and tix, yeah, they were handing them out, but it wasn't exactly difficult to get your paws on 'em...I bet we see extra copies distributed to area wrecka stows in the next couple of weeks. eBay, eSchmay.

Sorry for the double post, but I hadda finish answering TBA's question...the highlight? I'm not really sure. I think overall, Prince was far more playful in this performance than the show I saw him at here in Chicago, or in any of the other ONA live footage I've encountered. There's no one particular song that I thought highlighted this better than the other - he was pretty much "on" thoughout, and peeks and traces of good ol' classic Prince hamming it up came through the cracks more than a few times.

Yeah, that bit with the blue angel was killing me when they showed it at Paisley...I remember thinking, "It's okay that you're too tired and too cranky to really get into this, b/c you WILL dig on it later."

I gotta admit I love when Prince lights into the blue angel, or I wouldn't keep coming back. Would it be strange to jerk off to that scene? It would, wouldn't it? You can tell me.

Not entirely true, Anxiety no no no! ! I brought the shirt I had on in the DVD with me and put it on when the 1+1+1+3/LoveRollercoaster/Housequake medley came on! I took it off after the medley ended!

Me and my friends had a great time! We did not want to block anyone's view so we sat all the way in the back of the theatre because we know that we cannot sit when Prince is performing... either LIVE or in a concert DVD! We danced and cheered just like the brotha was onstage LIVE in front of us!

The Chicago screening was fun for me because I had all my friends that I love with me grouphug ... well, except for one because she's in Egypt right now! But even still, my friend April was there in spirit because she was on the big screen with me as we did our thang-thang with Prince in Vegas! It was also fun watching my cousin (Mr. Wild Hair!) and my other buddies react to seeing me and April onstage and in the spotlight with Prince! omg woot! I had already seen some of the footage at a preview at Paisley Park but even still, everytime I see myself up there with Prince, it's just as exciting as when we were actually there with him in Vegas!

It was great seeing everybody last night! Y'all made me feel like a celebrity! Chicago Purpleheads are the best!

I have to try like hell to make it to this party. I can't believe I missed the screening last night. Sounds like it was a good time...good to hear the DVD isn't as bad as people are saying.

Chris, Charles, Jason, Jo, Uhope, you guys made the night for me. Jason, you know I wanna jump your bones, right? You are such a beautiful man. The highlight of the DVD for me was 1+1+1=3. That was funky as hell. Seeing Red up on stage with Prince was so cool, especially since we had the pleasure of having her in the house with us. Thanks again for pumping up the crowd. Can I have your autograph? Ask P where yo check is!!!

I stand corrected.

All I know is, I turned around and there was a xerox copy of the lady dancing on the screen, shaking her thing right behind us - it was like the Purple Rose of Cairo or something (The Purple Rain of Chicago, ha)...but it was a very cool surprise, however it happened!

Yup, that was me! I wore a different shirt to the screening and put on the big shirt from the dvd during the medley! Ricco from MN by way of Detroit has me HOOKED UP with Prince shirts!!

good times. so you all were the people dancing in the back. right on. where was julian??

tickets that they did not rip and posters.

the quality of the video is much better at home for some reason. it also sounds better at home. that might be because of the surround sound in the theater. they cut out the bottom quarter of the screen in the theater. can't complain though.
