DETROIT DVD showing was well worth it ... but ...

Just wanted to say that it was so cool to see so many Motown motor babies partying and having a blast Monday night at the Star Southfield.

Thank you Prince, NPGMC, Universal and The Star.

Detroit fans waited in line at theatre 7 for the showing at 8pm, but were not admitted into the theatre until close to 8pm.

We were asked to be at the movie house by 7:30 to check in, but the rep for Paisley Park/Universal/NPGMC never arrived.

The theatre did have the reservation list but was told that they could not allow us inside the theatre until the rep showed up. The reservation list arrived at the Star Southfield earlier in the day, as well as the DVD.

All were in line for about 15 additional minutes, until around 7:50pm. With no one representing the film to check us in, the theatre manager went ahead and checked us off the list so we could enter the theatre.

To many motor babies surprise, the theatre was HALF EMPTY for the screening. Even though NPGMC said the Detroit screening was sold out -- 300 seats (150 npgmc members and one guest) -- it probably was not or it was, and other motor babies and npgmc members failed to show up (possibly because of the recent electrical blackout). Or even still the theatre moved the screening to a bigger theatre room of 300. Whatever the reason, everyone got in to see the DVD, npgmc member or no npgmc member.

Everyone got in, regardless if they had a reservation or not, which was cool. Unlike other cities no tickets were handed out and no posters. Maybe the tickets and posters were with the rep?

The DVD started, abruptly around 8:10 pm, with Pop Life, track 2, and played itself out. Everyone was hooting and hollering and loving it up (Nesci loves Prince oh yes she does, as well as Mr. Anderson/Neo). After the movie we had to wait about 10 more minutes in the dark to wait for the theatre assistant to play the bonus track -- The Ride. The assistant played tracks 1 and 2 just to complete the DVD screening. Everyone was satisfied.

Overall, the night was beautiful in Detroit and everyone had a great time, except for the slight no-rep show to check us in.

The theater was half empty (or half full, lol) in Chicago as well, even though it was also supposedly sold out. What an utter surprise!!! Each person received a ticket and a poster, which was cool.
I loved the show, coulda been longer though. The sound quality was ok, but the picture quality wasn't that great. Probably because it wasn't originally meant for the big screen. We unfortunately weren't shown the bonus clip "The Ride". Oh, and another thing, the camera people could have done a better job filming. The shots were a bit unsteady and the angles weren't the best at times. I'm not complaining though because it was neat to see the concert on the big screen. Thanks Prince for all of the wonderful things you do!!! rose
