Prince picked LA DVD screening for afterparty! Briefly cuz I don't have a lot of time...
What started out as a simple screening for the new Prince DVD turned into an incredible night! OK, the screening was cool and very fun. The audience interacted throughout and we all screamed when we caught glimpses of a few of the Bumpsquad members who made it onto the DVD As everyone knows there was no confirmation that Prince would play at any of the screenings so imagine my surprise as I get to the screening only to find out that Prince was there and was likely to play! Towards the end of the DVD we all jammed over to BB Kings on Universal City Walk and sure enough, Prince and the NPG played for about an hour and a half!! This place he played is so small, there was no such thing as a bad spot. I think from the stage to the back of the club had to be about 75 feet. It was tiny. What a great place to see him play. Just amazing. The opening song was SHHH. Don't even get me started on how freaked out and excited I was that they played this!! It nearly made me cry I was so excited. The whole night, including SHHH was instrumentals but do not even think for one second that they didn't tear shit up cuz they did. That is the tightest band and each member is possessed! Each player can play the fuck out of their instruments. So what started out as a night to hang with LA freax watching the new Prince DVD turned into a Prince afterparty. And all for free! dang these edit messages... That experience is priceless! Wow, what a complete contrast to the SF screening! With all those empty seats in SF, I'm starting to get the feeling that some knew what was going down in L.A.
Completely awesome, Supa - wish I coulda' been there. "When they tell me 2 walk a straight line, I put on crooked shoes"

That's cool I just thought it was odd that I read 50 minutes and then on this thread I saw 90 minutes because it is such a huge difference. But anyway glad you had fun Sounds like BB Kings is about the size of Paisley and those shows are always great.

Yes, the next time the LA haters step up I'll simply have to remind them that Prince picked our fabulous city for the DVD screening afterparty 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Oh my gosh! That's so cool! It seems that Detroit got the shaft on this one...our Universal rep didn't show up so we were about 15 minutes late getting into the theater and then we missed out on the free posters and cool tickets that everyone else got.
You guys really lucked out! Glad you had a blast

I'm kicking myself right now...! Oh well, I had things to do. But I hope you guys give a detailed review! Me too FCP! I couldn't justify taking the day off of work to go watch a movie in LA. It would have been cool to see the aftershow. Damn.

OK. All instrumentals? Did Prince take a vow of silence?
I'm serious. Serious as a mufuka. Did the dude speak to the audience at all? I gotta know. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Thanks for the great post! What an incredible experience for you and the folks in LA! I thought it could be possible for Prince to show at one of the screenings - maybe LA was the most well attended?
Anyway thanks for sharing. I'm sure you'll hold this dear in your memories for a long time.

It would have been cool to see the aftershow. Damn. I remember the Glams Slam West days, I just live 5 minutes from the place and I tell ya, you had to be like a cat ready for anything! I actually worked in one of those big buildings at night and could see the club, anytime I'd see activity, it was my after work hangout! I caught some great stuff that way! But me, ME, I should known better from that experience. No more, I tell ya NO MORE!!! ... . [This message was edited Tue Aug 19 23:54:50 PDT 2003 by FlyingCloudPassenger]

Not that I remember. I was in the back, and I didn't even notice he was on the stage. My friend had to point him out because I was asking what all the commotion was about. Then the band immediately launched into their set. I don't even remember him calling out ques to the bandmembers. When it was done, Prince walked off stage. Everybody hung out thinking he was going to come back onstage and perform some more, but nope, he didn't. I finally left around 12:30AM. It was a very casual evening, and a lot of fun. It may be weird that he didn't say anything to the crowd, but I didn't mind. At least he wasn't asking if it's better to be a leader or a follower, or preaching the JW gospel.
