DVD: PAL vs NTSC

So how does this work?
I know the dvd is region 0, so that's cool.
But at NPGMC they say it's NTSC, whazzup with that?!?
oes that mean I can't play it on European dvdplayers or tv's? omfg

PAL is the European enccoding colour format, and it's far better than the NTSC (Not The Same Color) .

NTSC is 29 frames/second instaed of 25 for PAL, the resolution is also less precise, the image size is not the same. All of that cause a green/pink image looking, some skips on moving images and the ratio 2 be shrinked. (When u're looking NTSC on a average PAL system)

So make your choice. But if you're in EUrope, PAL is definitively better.

Just buy a JVC region-free DVD player. Make sure you have a region-free tv or at least an adaptor as well, and all of your troubles with compatibility should cease.

NTSC or PAL, it really doesn't matter in this case. And no, you won't need a NTSC player or television either. The ONLY difference will the the frame rate. The NTSC disc will play at 30 frames per second, the PAL one at 25. Any modern PAL tv set (if it's got an AV input consider it modern) can handle the higher frame rate just fine.

So why doesn't a faster frame rate translate into a superior picture? Just wondering.

It's not the frame rate that makes the picture better, it's the lines of resolution. I can't remember the exact nimbers but PAL has around 100 lines of extra resolution per frame.

PAL looks more like a movie than ntsc, because we are used to a more flipbook look to the motion that you get with a lower frame rate. Ntsc has a bit less resolution, but the frame rate is higher and looks more smooth and live, but that is what looks like fake video to our conditioned minds.

I don't understand the wrkngs of playing pal on ntsc, but the two formats are not compatible, different pixel resolution, different rate of field (frames)... the only way this could work is if the dvd player has an extra converter that does some kind of cheap conversion and spits out the other format on the fly... I bet there's a slight time delay then.
