Well, I just opened NEWS for about the sixth time since getting it...

...and the plastic tray just slipped out of the flimsy cardboard packaging. No force was or has been put on the package, I always treat CD packaging with great respect, but it just slipped out. I've just about managed to place it back where it was and the glue seems to be holding it in place...just! Why has this thing been put in such a crappy package? I mean, I actually quite like the music - it gets more interesting with each listen. I had it in my stereo constantly for the first couple of weeks of having it, but it seems such a shame that, in order to save a couple of $$$, the CD has been shoddily packaged.

Has this happened to anybody else?

Yes. It happened to me over the weekend. I don't fold the cardboard into the slits anymore - I just fold it up and put it with the other CDs on my rack. Hopefully it won't go the way of my Cream maxi-single, which looks like it's been chewed by a dog.

Well, that's unfortunate! I keep all of my Prince CDs that came in a "sensitive package" in a separate CD wallet so I don't ruin anything. So that means the Symbol CD, Rave Un2, TRC, & 1999 TNM are kept out of their original nesting places. Works for me.

Not to mention, with my cd the seal was stuck to the print , so when I took of the seal it removed part of the ink, as a result, my cd has white marks allover.sad
Guess there was no budget for a layer to protect the printing either...

It's not really anything to do with luck, wyld1...the packaging is really shoddy. I posted in the club when I got mine that the plastic inlay was cracked, and had come unglued from the backing, before I even opened it.

Probably most unfortunate of all is that I bet the printing of these things was a lot more than your standard jewel case. These would not be purchased in large bulk amounts, and were custom designed, so in otherwords, the CDs cost more to be more fragile

Man, was I relieved to see conventional jewel cases for the 3 ONA Live discs!

On the other hand, I don't think the music industry (including artists) wants us to worry about CD packaging, artwork, or collectibility anymore. We're supposed to either acquire the music via the internet, or if you prefer, download your purchased discs to your computer and trust the Windows Media Player for playback.

Do what I do...burn the cd, and keep the original in the case, on a shelf. Works wonders!

Spaced, you mean I'm not the only one?

Kind of a bummer...it's not like you can put it in a new case, b/c the packaging is all part of the case. Oh well. sad

I hardley think thjat the packaging was ment to be cheap and "shoddy" but ment to be environmentally correct like the previousa album and like every album on this earth SHOULD be packaged

2 I love the packaging it reminds me of the look and feel of original album cover art and packaging [records] [vinyl]

The plastic tray became unstuck from the cardboard case after hardly any usage. Environmentally friendly or not, that is shoddy packaging. Or are you saying that it's Environmentally friendly glue that doesn't stick and is therefore acceptable? Yep, every album should be packaged in such a way that it falls apart within a few weeks rolleyes
