Charging fans to enter a promotional website is nuts!

Hi everyone. This site is great. It's what the NPGMC website SHOULD look like.

I've been without internet access for awhile (yeah, you can live without it!) and am just catching up on the latest Prince news.

I was shocked to see that you now have to pay to enter the NPGMC website. Has Prince gone completely nuts?! That site is there to promote his music. It should be free!

Considering how bad the old NPGMC website was, I'm amazed anyone would pay to join this new version.

I love Prince's music, but I think he sees his hardcore fans as a source of cash to be exploited. Given his disrepect to us (the paid website, shipping problems, "bootleg" email) I don't think his deserves our membership. When I want to buy his CD I'll use Ebay or go to the local music store. It's faster and cheaper - am I wrong?

Props to this excellent site and to all the long-suffering Prince fans.

Subscription is the future - this will be a part solution to cut down on media piracy - Prince just did it earlier than the majority.

Do the front rows seats for NPGMC members count for anything or will it always be outweight by the petty broke ass fans that want everything for free?

Media Piracy??? It seems Princes solution to media piracy,if hes taqckling it through NPGMC, is not to have any media on there!!!

I think its disgusting too - look at Thedawn.com, Love4oneanther.com, Npgonlineltd.com all of these had more media content than the music club currently has...and we didnt have to pay a penny for those!!!

I think record sales have dropped, moneys got a little too tight for the sequin boot-maker to get paid so Princ ehas figured out that,if he can get the fans to pay upfront, then he can have a rummage around in his dusty old vault, find some rough old samples, put them out and get paid.

Mind you if it was dust old trax then that would be cool...unfortunately it wouldl seem that Prince has bought himself a CD burner and is busily copying his own cds to mp3 and whacking them inthe reflection room.

I'll give him this though...he must be smart, he knows where teh money is and he also knows that despite fucking up for three yeras now (and I have to say its got worse since year 1)...people (like me sad ) still come back and pay.

Well I have been a member since the beginning and I didn't get within the first ten rows of the Chicago shows I attended last year.

This is stupid Lamont...you have to understand plenty of members are getting a rough deal...even if yours is totally smooth. As I have said before I DIDNT GET FRONT ROW SEATS CUZ NPGMC F***ED UP AGAIN!!!. There I was waiting to buy my priority tickets and all of a sudden they cant fvind my membership details...what a surprise that theyw ere sold out by teh time it let me log in. Nevermind I thought, I'll get the tickets through normal means and have a great time which I did...Until Prince started getting the front rows to sing "join teh club" in my direction and poinyting out that he was "going to another party after" with his "friends" and if we wanted to coem along and caredc about him we should "join the club".

Let me tell you what I have missed out on so far because of NPGMC bungling ways:

1) Rave in2
2) Hit n Run Tickets
3) ONA Tickets
4) Xpectation downloads
5) Soundcheck downloads
6) Glam Slam password

on top of that Ive been charged twice and very very rarely get any reply from them (especially when it comes to teh Rave issue).

So in answer to your question about front row seats making a difference...I wouldnt know because, like hundreds/thousands of other fans who arent as lucky as you, I have the normal NPGMC memebrship...the one where they can cock up at anytime an we are just meant to turn a blind eye or put it down to the club being new (still!!!).

Prince is dead?...I wish he bloody was cuz at least Warner Bros would be able to release some decent funk/rock n roll music of his.

NPGMC = NintendoPlaystationGraphicsMusiclessClub.

i was saying this a week after the club opened for 2003.
now people realise its all bullshit.

& as 4 LaMont: it dont look like there r any concerts goin on this year. there r only 5 months left on NPGMC 2003.

its bullshit, but then again, people joined up & they surely by now know the risks u take.
i waited for a month after opening & STILL wasnt convinced.

P wil continue doing it most likely cz he knows there r "fams" who get sucked in,or r just waaay too obsessed.

i'll use princebonics & listen 2 his music 24/7...
but dammit that $25 can b used 2 buy cd-r's for top quality bootlegs with MUSIC on them!

I interpreted CarolineC's post as the web site should have the same free (promotional) elements it had before to get new fans/whatever talking and discussing the site. I have no problem with him charging for music, but there should still be a free element to the site for non-members and curious on-lookers, rather than a login just to take a peek at what goes on inside.

Subscription is already the past and isn't working when you are neglecting "members"; then members will go and download it for free.

Prince should be smart and sell mp3's and cd's to anyone for a reasonable price without having to subscribe to a religiously laden "music" club that offers in fact no music you could also buy elsewhere.

What exactly is there to "get access" to? Besides, as far as I know they've only taken the discussion forum privileges away from people - I haven't heard of anyone getting his or her account deleted altogether, so if they ever decide to actually put something up, all members will still have access.

Not that it looks likely that they'll be posting anything but 96 kbps streaming Larry Graham songs anytime soon.

Why would someone be banned from the club altogether? Other than the forums and chat, the only other thing on there to access is buying stuff...and you know Prince would NEVER ban anyone from giving him mo' money.

And I can't think of anything more punishing than being duped into buying one of those shitty Beautiful Strange tapes they're gonna try to pawn off next week. Lawd...

At the very least, he should change the name of the site. Maybe it's a club, but very rarely does it have much to do with music.
