Prince and commercial success I've noticed from time to time in some peoples posts there seems to be a desire for Prince to return to commercial success.
I was wondering why some people desire that for him. Me, personally, don't wish that for him. It seems that with his current status, he is able to do the things he's always wanted to do. It would be great if what he's doing now could have some commercial success, but I don't hope for it to happen. I was just curious as to why some of you guys want that. Let me know.

I think it would be nice to see him perform from time to time on TV somewhere (he did on Leno, but I mean at bigger events).
You know, educating them kiddies.

People want to feel that their undying admiration for Prince is validated by others.
Others just want to be righter than everybody else. *is that a word?* -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

It would be nice to see more acknowledgement for the music he's making. I wouldn't want him selling out but rather the public appreciating what he's doing now. I loved the hype when he toured Australia in 1992. He was everywhere in the news and he seemed to love it, both in pictures and of course on stage. A chart-blitzer every few years would be nice. Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

I will speak for me as to why I desire Prince to find comercial success again. For me some of Princes best songs came at a time when he was either successful or pushing to be recognised. Once he tapped into that vein he continued to push boundaries and feel his way ahead of other artists. Since splitting from WB or for whatever reason) he appears to have lost his way and desire.
My feeling is,and its just a hunch, that if Prince was to have that 'recognition' again then he would head in the direction of populat opinion and be back on track. You have to bare in mind that Prince, to many people not in his fan circle, is just a goofball who changed his name for no reason to a squiggle and went about with Slave qritten on his face, talking in riddles with what appeared to be an oversized hanky on his face during the Tora Tora period...trust me Ive had these comments first hand. He used to be recognised as a genius now its just a word to describe something that he had but fizzled out in the 90's. That ladies and gentlmen of teh jury is why I think Prince needs just a taste of commercial success...just enough to wet his appetite and get him to hold the map up the right way.

Well, he's had his share of gems since the WB thing. Actually, I don't know of anyone who isn't a Prince follower who even saw a glimpse of him during the "Tora Tora" episodes -- they just remember him as the guy who changed his name, end of story. I don't think most non-fans even know (or care) that he's back to "Prince" again. just enough to wet his appetite and get him to hold the map up the right way. I thought that was what N.E.W.S. was all about. [This message was edited Mon Aug 4 15:42:40 PDT 2003 by Doozer] Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife.
