A serious question for this board

I have a serious question that I've been wondering about.

All of you who do not like the vibe and the censorship over at the NPGMC boards, why do you keep going back? The boards here are good, and no one seems to be upset about censorship or anything like that.

So why do you keep going back to the NPGMC boards?

Exactly - $25. What else was it for if not for the forums? One mp3?

I paid my fee to get in. I speak honestly what I think of Prince and his music and his club. Both good and bad. The forum was called "U Tell Us" not "U Praise Us". Maybe the ass-kissers need to step back for a moment and realize that they don't own the club, and prince isn't going to invite them over for tea, for their sycophantic comments. Have you ever taken an art class in college, and had to participate in a critique? They're worthless unless your peers give you honest feedback, not shallow praise.

* I don't want to imply that everyone who likes the club or prince's music is an "ass-kisser". Just that there are certainly some ass kissers on there.

I think part of it is because when you have someone with the history, body of work and live-performance reputation that Prince has, fans not only start to feel a bit invested, they also form a strong fan community.

For better or for worse.

Because I love to cause trouble and stir the proverbial pot. Some of the "fams" over at NPGMC are so shallow and so fake it makes me want to hurl. Those people alone are enough to make one want to stir the pot. I had such HIGH hopes for the new NPGMC and its new management. As usual Prince let me down so maybe my trouble making at NPGMC is my way of displacing my aggression. Besides its fun!!!

Sometimes, visiting the NPGMC is like visiting the site of a car crash. It's ugly, but there's a ghoulish fascination with seeing just how ugly it's getting.

Ironically I never go to the NPGMC site unless somebody here says that something new has come up.

In light of recent things I really have to ask myself why I joined. There is no music in teh music club and the stuff in the online store has taken so long to get to me (and still hasnt!!!) that the products Ive ordered at a hefty price are now in the highstreet stores for less!!!

A question for all the followers who see no wrong - what exactly does the club offer that is worth paying for?

(and that is a genuine question)

Don't think I'm a "follower who sees no wrong" but I'll take a shot at your question. Apparently it doesn't offer you much of anything. Me, well I got my cd before it hit the streets so it worked out for me. Plus I don't own all the songs that have been in the Reflection Room. Sucks to be you I guess wink j/k. The club has gotten much better than previous years, but there's definitely room for improvement. but that's just my experience, your mileage may vary.

Like you said Universaluv...everybody has wildly different experiences of NPGMC...but it simply shouldnt be that way.

Take my experiences:

Year One

cry Charged twice and had to fight for a refund
cry Never received Rave in2
cry Many of the downloads were already available on cds/videos that were already released (ok so this isnt really a failing of teh club...just poor practice)

Year Two

Not many things could go wrong with this year except for one thing...gig tickets.

cry booked time off work to get priority tickets to one of the London gigs...ticket sale time comes and I sit at my computer anxiously... my membership details cant be found until all tickets have sold out.

I eventually get a ticket towards the back of the venue through normal means...only to have Prince at the front getting the front rows to sing "Join the Club" to the people at the back because "If you cared about us you'd...Join the club!!!" Not much fun

Year Three

A much cheaper NPGMC...mainly because there is no music

cry I ordered NEWS...I aint got it but its in the shops...you think Im going to order the DVD for twice as much only to sit here an watch people buy it from the highstreet no no no!

And some people STILL cant see that others are getting a raw deal

I'll admit some people have gotten straight screwed. They can never be perfect in everyones eyes, but they can definitely get better. Now, considering your experience, if after all that I find out that you sign up next year, well... fishslap

But thats why people join isnt it...the "what if he gets back on track again" factor - I have to join because he hates me personally and is holding back his best stuff until the year I dont sign up!!!

I just don't visit the boards over there. I joined for the music, not the "message". Prince is one of those artists who's music I absolutely love.. but when it comes to the artist himself.. I disagree with a lot of things. And that's ok. I don't have to agree with everything P stands for to like his music. I just don't visit the mb. No biggie.

Gus

So, for $25 a person should be allowed to say what ever they want at NPGMC forum?

Then I am sending pricne.org and thier mods $25.
So, I can say what ever I want here at pricne.org.

Get the point. It's should not be about the money. It should be about respect.Follow the rules or get kicked out.

different space - different rules, simple.
whereas the org will take action 4 flaming (as will pretty much any messageboard etc), they only act if there is serious misconduct - more often than not directed at an individual, or invasion of privacy...
the NPGMC however, has Orwellian tendancies - and I 4 one, just cant be bothered even visiting there anymore unless I know there is something of import. $25 - I aint fussed, I look at it this way: at least it wasnt $100 of my money they've pissed up a wall.
Im not surprised, whenever there has been an opportunity 2 waste, Prince has been there 2 exploit it 2 the fullest, and make Himself look a fool in the interim.
The amount of other acts out there that have websites better than His is unreal (when I say better - I mean as in what it can actually OFFER its FANS) All the fancy graphics in the world dont matter when there is no substance 2 back them up.
Currently it seems as if He has thrown all His toys out of the crib - get over it man, and get your act 2gether.
If Prince can't take a little (or even a lot of) critisism, then He should retire.
Sometimes...I wish He had - instead of fading away.

all the negative responses 2 this post are already so predictable - just think about things that have transpired these past few years - ANYONE who reckons we are now 'better off' post Warners is talking out of their ass, and I laugh in their face
