The only complaint that I have about it, is folks wouldn't have got as upset if they had just posted this in the e-mail in the first place.

That dvd is a boot that anyone could have made by transferring a vcr copy to dvd by burning it.A digital video camera pointed at reasonable quality TV screen could make a copy to be sent to DVD.Ahhh, the technology!---

1. The email said nothing about that DVD.

2. That DVD came out this year, so he has a case there, but everything in the email is at least 10-15 years old, and was made, distrubuted and sold whilst Prince was with Warner Bros.

3. That end bit about the Purple Rain re-release could happen whether fans send in these official CDs and bootlegs any way - Why does the NPGMC pull this shit?

It's like saying "if you continue to be naughty, you won't get your dessert".

Purple Rain could get a re-release in 2004 regardless - that entirely between Prince & WB, has nothing to do with us either way.

And finally, having Prince write liner notes to an album release isn't exactly an incentive (remember Crystal Ball lol )

Co-Sign. They were just covering because the email didn't mention the DVD at all and now they are trying to act as if this is the main cause behind the email rolleyes .

No offense, but it's not a shock that Ricco is on Prince's side.

Anxiety

I find it really hard to believe that these items are really causing as much of a problem as Prince is letting on.

I mean, come on. Who wants to go on a wrecka stow run with me? I live in Chicago, I've lived in NYC, and I've RARELY seen the items listed in this e-mail.

To me, it seems like a case of Prince carrying on with his hard feelings toward WB, and picking whatever nits he can find to continue his righteous crusade against the big bad smooshers of creativity at AOL Time Warner. Is he gonna start writing stuff on his face again?

PLUS:

Why did he address the e-mail to ALL of us, when supposedly, all he wanted was one copy of each item on the list? At the VERY least, that e-mail was very poorly written. At the very WORST, it reads like a request for us to turn in our contraband for the love of our precious golden idol.

And most of us took the latter to be the meat of the message.

Either way, this whole thing has been a desperate, poorly planned, poorly communicated MESS, and I think the ramifications to his reputation are going to be greater than Prince and NPGMC can perhaps appreciate.

EXACTLY!!! Thank you Romance!!! If it was about the Sign o The Times bootleg DVD, why didn't the email reference it AT ALL? Besides, that was NOT released by Warner...it was a BOOTLEG.

How can you guys believe anything that comes out of that time and again proven liar's mouth? Prince will NEVER re-release ANYthing with extras and frills.

And they shut down all the forums b/c they can't handle anything that doesn't go along with their fucked up cult belief system.

Prince, you're a fucking twat.

Pathetic.

it says "imagine" don't get confused, I think they are just trying to make an example...but who knows. It maybe late but that doesn't mean oh well forget it then...not to me anyway.

Stymie is right though...the e-mail should have said all this to begin with.

Romance, it says about the PR thingy...being release by the artist himself (as opposed to what ever wb feels like putting out) just trying to clarify.

Someone on NPGMC this morning wrote that Prince likes to stick his finger up his ass to scratch his nose.

that's beginnin to become one of prince's favorite words..."imagine". dunno about him, but folks are tired of "imagining" projects and the carrot-on-a-stick act, which is out in plain view at the end of the letter/rebuttal.

Wee! Me and shorty agreed on something! How cool is that? I agree with you also on the 'imagine' part. They are not saying that it is something that is gonna happen but they oughta stop saying things like that if they don't want people to get all worked up over 'maybes'. I totally agree with Babyclaps on the carrot-on-a-stick. I feel like I 'm being jerked around with statements like that one.

I've read a lot of these posts, because they have made me very curious recently.

Untill now I have never really formed an actual opinion on the issue. But, I have decided to give Prince the benefit of the doubt here.

All I can think about is the whole "slave" battle that went on in the 90s. Fact of the matter is, it did seem to create a whole new wave of freedom fighters (those that get the credit, for what Prince did). Anyways, I can remember just how damn confused people were about that, and how many people laughed at him just like now.

And then, watching the Beautiful Experience video, or listening to Exodus, we hear about music clubs, and downloading music into fan's computers. And now, look, that's happening.

Anyways, I think my entire point is, he has as usual taken the wrong approach to a good idea. It doesn't make sense to me, but nothing ever does. He is nutty, but some of his ideas still surprise. I am very anxious to see what the situation is in July, 2004. Hopefully by then, this whole fiasco will have explained itself.

Until then, I'm not even going to begin to make a judgment, because I just have no clue what to think. He really has to open up his communication lines more, if he really has nothing to hide.

The point is, this re-release of PR will NEVER happen, no matter the circumstances...so it's just another bullshit statement from the club.

They have no credibility.

That post I just made, upon second reading, sounds weird. I'm going to re-summarize.

I have no clue what to think about whatever Prince does, so I don't have a clue about this thing.

I'm just gonna sit back and wait, and see what happens, before I decide if this thing is idiotic or not.

hey..holy shit eh? smile
yeah..I agree with the carrot on a stick thing but...I think it's the best way for them to get the point across that it is Prince's work and he should have full controll over it. I don't think we're talking about the contractual obligation stuff here either it seems he has "gotten over" that. This "seems" to be about other stuff that was like...behind the bush dealings on WB part that Prince was really kept in the dark about...and I think he's let it slide all this time but it just keeps mounting...the pile of money they made off of him with out him even knowing is keeps growing and growing. Like the explaination says...enough is enough..
