NPGMC - A Missed Opportunity

Just a quick note in response to all the posts about buying NEWS in stores, and buying the Vegas DVD in stores, and whether it is worth joining the club.. etc..etc..etc

1. I just bought the new Muse single online for 99p. (About $1.60) - If Prince has some songs cluttering up his so called vault (and I'm guessing it's a complete myth, and equates to nothing more than a bunch of unfinished bits and pieces) then why not stick them up for sale using the exact same system. Muse are not a cash-rich band, so this would have to make them money.

2. When you join a club you dream of getting something extra for your membership. That's what clubs are about. That's why from the Beatles onwards, rare and unreleased songs, special gigs, and so on have been made available just to club members. If i'm going to buy NEWS or the Vegas DVD from the club, i'd like it to contain something extra than what I'd get buying it in the store. Surely that makes good business sense too ? Isn't P making more money if I buy from him direct ?

3. A lot of big bands offer FREE web-clubs, and in them they ask their fans what they want. Blur did a poll to find out what songs people wanted to see on the best of recently. Why didn't he ask his fans, the people who went to the concerts, what tracks they want to see on the live DVD (having said that, it seems utterly weird that the whole show isn't being presented)

So in answer to all those people who wonder whether to buy from the club ? Answer, wait. It'll be safer to get it from retail.

And to answer whether it is worth joining the club, Answer, no. Don't bother. It's a curiosity, but I haven't logged on to it for ages. Why would I. What is there to see ?

I log here a few times a week to get all the news.

Did you like Stockholm Syndrome? I loved it. The next muse album is out in Sept (22nd I believe).

PS. Total agree about the club!

But yeah, Faaan...Daaan...Go? - you're absolutely correct in your assessment of the club's missed opportunity. It's not exactly a shocker, but still.

Why order from the club if you can get it in retail?

Who ever heard of a club where the only benefit is being able to ORDER the retail items a couple weeks in advance, with no assurance that you'll actually get them in advance?

If the DVD is available for order August 12th, and the retail date is August 19th, I'll wait for the retail, thanks. In fact, as long as it's going to retail and there's no bonus for the members on the club version, I'll go retail.

boo hoo. Prince could come up with 15 versions of the club and you all will be sitting around going "ya know, Kylie has an awesome web club. Prince is so stupid" - WE GET IT! Change the station.
