I, too, was disappointed that the entire show wasn't released -- I was there in Vegas and enjoyed every minute of it. But 3 hours is too long to put on a single DVD with the requisite Dolby Digital and possible DTS soundtrack -- over the bit budget, sorry. Adding a second disc would change the manufacturing costs/price point structure, so that was probably a consideration. Also, the tracks that got left off were a little underpar... the show opened with Prince/Sheila/John doing a drum solo-thing that was okay, but didn't feel completely worked out. Not the greatest thing I've ever seen, let's just say. So that means "Rainbow Children" has to go. "Purple Rain" was fine, but a little rote and not in keeping with the "never look back" theme of the tour, so that's out, too. Plus some other deletions for time. This might explain the edited version of the show. It would be nice to have the aftershow, but the crowd was a little flat due to the long main show and nothing particularly special to have overall (though Kat Dyson was killing). There you go.

I would love to see a 3 hour show by Prince on DVD, but did you consider that Prince has to hire an outside company to manufacture and distribute the dvd? Remember Prince music is not selling like it use to back in the 80's or early 90's.

I am sure if it was Prince alone making the call, he would include the whole show and the after show as a bonus but I am sure whoever is making and distributing the dvd told prince to cut it down so they can keep it at a competive price and make money on the dvd. Also, you dont see any other music acts releasing 3-hour plus live performances, do you?

Why couldn't Prince take pre-orders via the music club and then negotiate prices with the outside company? You'd think he'd have a good idea how many members are going to buy the DVD. This way, he could set members expectations ahead of time concerning shipping. I don't even know why he goes retail with all the controversy about pricing etc. No casual Prince fans are going to buy NEWS or this DVD.

Maybe set up a separate distribution deal for fans in Europe as they get fucked on shipping directly from the club. Again, he should have an idea what the demand is for the product.

Does the NPGMC have a set list for the DVD or something?
Peace and Love!
