Holy Schmoly, nice one Antoon!

So the Manufacturer's Suggested Price is $15. Interesting...although it looks like Electric Fetus has already decided to price theirs a bit lower, at least for now.

So they couldn't get nice comments from the music press and decided they had to get the fanatics to be muisc critcs instead. .

Should have asked me. My piece would have only taken one line.

Without any vocals.. and just the music alone as an instrumental album its quite boring and not interesting as say "Madhouse" was. Just goes to show you, Prince can still release anything to whats left of his hardcore fanbase.

I do think it's pretty fucking pathetic to use those glowing, fanatical quotes from members on the advertisement. It was sort of okay in the ONA booklet if you looked at it like a gift to the fans...but this is going too far. Can you imagine how many more of those posts we're gonna have to wade through with each new release now?

It already seemed to me when people wrote some of those that they were just sucking up to Prince to get a name-check or a special favor...looks like I was right. Sigh.

I agree.. I can't believe some of the pathetic comments.

"incredible?? groundbreaking?? unique??

These pinheads need to start listening to some other music for a change. Theres nothing incredible, groundbreaking or unique about it.

Not as interesting as Madhouse? Really, Madhouse was nice, but on NEWS there are just more musically interesting things going on, IMO.
At the moment, I kind of play South over and over again.

Yeah, I keep playing West. wink

I think News is a GOOD album...but like you said, savannah, it sure isn't ground-breaking. How could one possibly call it ground-breaking? Because nobody has ever released a CD with 4 songs exactly 14 minutes long each? smile

I also like it better than Madhouse...I can never listen to Madhouse for too long..it seems too slick to me, or something. As for Xpectation...it picks up towards the end, but I personally can't STAND Vanessa Mae's mewling violin.

I thought the C-NOTE tracks were quite good, and it seems to me that News has the most in common with them.

People have different opinions...some may like this CD, some may not. That's cool. I personally think West is just a beautiful, beautiful song.

But to compare it to Around The World in a Day in terms of how "groundbreaking" it is? That's just wrong, is what that is. smile

Thanks BlueAngel. U basically said what I was trying to. It's okay - I don't hate it. . but it's SOOO not what SOTT was in its day. .

I just think that Prince is losing it. . and I think his fan base are just applauding anything he puts out which is a shame.

I mean that imo he's not putting out anything on record that makes me go ga ga anymore. He still is a top class live act but it's just not doing it 4 me anymore. . and I am not turning into one of those 'why can't P bring put out songs like Purple Rain' - nor am I leaving the org because of it. I shall wait 4ever more. I guess I just need some vocals and good lyrics.

Well, just to chime in again, I gotta say that I'm playing this album a lot...granted, it's in less frequent rotation than I'm used to with a new Prince album, but this is essentially a side project, and a damn good one at that.

If anyone is looking for THE PERFECT ALBUM FOR RIGHT NOW, may I suggest Grandaddy's "Sumday"? It's got purty vocals and everythang. I'm pretty much alternating News with Sumday, although Sumday is "the winner" in terms of the most plays. But I digress.

It's a much better instrumental album than Xpectation. I can guarantee you that in 5 years I'll still be listening to this.

Whatever that has to do with anything. wink

Well, come now...it's the first instrumental CD ever to be released that's officially credited to "Prince." That alone makes it unique, at the very least.

I of course agree that NEWS is not going to end up with legendary status like SOTT, but that's the fun of an instrumental album. The only "statements" you'll get out of an instrumental are simply through the feelings the music provokes in your mind, not by lyrics that spell it out for you.

I have no problem with anyone who thinks NEWS is a throwaway or a weak effort or whatever...but I also read plenty of posts when TRC was released that read "the music is great, but good God...the lyrics are abismal" -- well, then NEWS is the perfect album from that standpoint.

I dig the album and think it is a great release geared mainly for the club, where Prince should feel more comfortable than anywhere else doing things differently.
