REFLECTION POOL (6/23/03)

There are now three "The Artist" songs featured:

  • 2morrow
  • She Spoke 2 Me
  • Madrid 2 Chicago

Prince only writes about sex

Indeed... what is happening with the various songs being featured in the pool, people? Are we witnessing the so-called re-mastering effort that Prince has alluded to?

Looking over the latest list of songs I'm struck by the inclusion of She Spoke 2 Me, because this clearly represents a CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION.

Madrid 2 Chicago is a really nice addition as well, because I for one missed it the first go around.

I think, Prince never called any particular song a "contractual obligation", only full albums got this label. I guess he never wrote any song with the contractual obligation in his mind.
He just gave some of his songs to WB to fulfill his contract; songs he wouldn't have released at the time without the contract. But these songs were still genuine efforts when he wrote/recorded them. And so was "She spoke to me".

It's a grower. Give it another go later.

I'm not sure how "Madrid 2 Chicago" is a good example of Prince NOT writing about sex, considering there's a line that goes, "Nuthin' but eatin' that pussy...on my mind."

Madrid 2 Chicago was originally released as a real audio snippet in the GROOVEZ section of NPG Music Club in 1999; it was subsequently released in *.mp3 format via the club in January of '02 (thanks to www.dawnation.com for the info). There was a rumored album called Madrid 2 Chicago as well, I think that the song Breathe was identified as being on this album.

I forgot about that line! Sort of similar to how he slips

Honey, I can make U happy (I can make U H. A. P. P. Y.)
Ooh, I can make it real good (So good)
Honey, I won't be your pappy (P. U. S. S. Y.)
But I'll do ya, I'll do ya, do ya, do ya, like a...

in the song New Position. I'm a little surprised that this line made it past the NPGMC censors -- or is pussy not a bad word?

Well that's the interesting part, kmc..in Year One, the club backmasked the p-u-s-s-y part of New Position.

This track is from the album "Madrid 2 Chicago" which was advertised the last month of Year One as being one of the "4 albums" that Prince was going to release if we joined Year 2 (I'm using their words).

It was also in club advertisements for the first few months of Year 2, until at some point Prince changed his mind and it was yanked. But yes, there is indeed an album byt this title, and this track as well as "Breathe" are on there.

I actually REALLY dig Madrid, but I can't STAND Breathe. Icky. wink

Maybe Prince is using allowing Pussy through because he's miffed that Warners censored the song title Pussy Control to just P. Control. Then again, maybe not.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.
