Yeah, u should join. I just signed up yesterday after waiting to see if it was going to be worth it.
When I heard that the only way to get NEWS was through the club, and after hearing the sample of the album from a buddy of mine I joined. The site is pretty cool...I can't get enough of that mixing room. I still am not sure if its worth $25, but if you are a Prince fan u'll enjoy it.

I think there may still be some videos of live songs to watch, and there is a room where you can listen to some old Prince of Prince related songs. for $25 (£15-ish in real money - that's what we have to pay for the new gareth gates/madonna/metallica album, just to give you a sense of the kind of sh*t you can get for $25) i've got (after 3-ish months):

ACTUAL DOWNLOADED STUFF:

- 1 1/2hrs of music from the reflection room (1 new track, the rest old (often remixes that i didn't have) - in all, about half is new to my CD collection)

- 50 music clips from the 3 Vaults (about 1min each) from FOR YOU to NEWS - of course, you may already have his full back catalogue. but i still find it better (and about the same overall length) than THE VERY BEST OF...

- 6videos (about 25-30mins in total).

PLUS SITE STUFF:

1st room:
- changing selection of tracks in reflection room
- message forum
- 'knowledge room' - last year's essays and bible quotes (not everyone's cup of tea, but hey-it looks cool!)
2nd room:
- Chat room (chats so far with Nikka Costa, Shelia E and Eric Leeds)
- members only retail section, that they really should update - probably be the first place to get NEWS from though...
3rd room
- cool musicology room - had 2 sets of clips that can be mixed into a new track. now available to download, and can listen to member mixes.
- Control room where you can play around with slightly updated versions of old P tracks
- 3 vaults (see above for stuff available)
- verse room where Prince lyrics (some old, some new) are posted, along with some laughably rubbish member lyrics. mystery room included here that will presumably host something at some point.
4th room
- cyberclips room with vids listed above.
- backstage room with weird clip of a dog chewing demo tapes, some pics from the ONA tour AND (I would happily pay £15 for this alone) the chance to get member pre-sales of future concerts-sceptics will add "if there are any").

or, you could buy:

- the tune-free metallica CD
- 5 copies of your favourite music magazine
- a 24 pack of beer
- SWEPT AWAY on DVD

I think you'll agree that these 4 possibilities TOGETHER are worth less than the first 3 months of the club. get you cash out man!

See? that's the standard trick the npgmc uses to make people pay 25$ for nothing. Make the music excluivily avalaible on the site and all the ones having doubts on joining will start to feel they HAVE to join in order to get that new cd. But what will happen? TYhe cd will be like 25$ as well, excluding shipping. And THEN he will release it to stores where you can buy it for half the price. Just like he did in year 1 and 2. screwing your last remaining fans over for a little bit of change. What a fool.

b) the disk cost $10, not $25.

c) the club for years 1 and 2 were well worth it to me. I was able to take advantage of the concert benies and enjoyed the music. While I understand (some) complaints from people who didn't get what they bargained for, the club worked for me.
