Very much looking forward to it. I liked the second sample a lot. The first one (in the vault) was to short and basic for me.

A nice long nap, or a new Prince CD guaranteed to induce a nice long nap? I'll save my money.

Always looking forward to some new music by the man. I also like the idea as Eric Leeds described it that they just jammed. Should be interesting and I love the fact that he is trying to go new ways but we will know more once we have been given the chance to listen to the music.

May we one day be able to see the world as it is and not the way we want it to be.

No, I'm not. Not a huge fan of instrumentals by my favorite lyricist. This will be the first Prince album I have not bought.

I have to admit that this is the first Prince album that I'm not looking forward to at all. I probably won't buy it unless the preview/listening party really turns me on. The type of music just doesn't interest me.

The samples sounded really raw and powerful.
I´m also looking forward to Eric´s contributions, as he´s my favourite sax player.
Also, to record a jam session as an album is something new from Prince and change is always welcomed.
I was really surprised to read that some orgers are not interested in instrumentals... that´s quite disappointing, since I was so naive to believe that I was amongst mature, open minded music connaisseurs here on the org.
To put it short, I guess NEWS is "real music for real music lovers".

FutureShock

I always look forward to any new release from Prince, instrumental... vocal... whatever the flava.

But I do think it's very interesting that Prince has moved into the instrumental realm as of late. The reason it is interesting to me is because Prince's last vocal album "The Rainbow Children" created such a stir and in many ways created a rift amongst fans (believers and non-believers alike).

Now, though, it's almost as if Prince is saying "you can't handle the truth!" so I'm going to remove the words and you can make of it whatever you like. And in that regard, I think it is a brilliant move to release instrumental music.
Furthermore, if this is what Prince is inspired to do at this particular time, then I'm all ears and can't wait to hear it.

Of course people are still going to complain, but they won't be able to complain because "Prince said this, or Prince said that... etc."
"You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"

Not looking forward to it...on the strength of the trailer I think its going to be as weak as an over used tea bag in a swimming pool.

I am pretty excited about this one. I love the sample on NPGMC. I also love Madhouse/Eric Leeds and pretty much all of P's instrumental/jazzy stuff. Finally, I have to admit, I like TRC mainly for the music, the lyrics threw me, and all the different sounding voices were annoying. I think if I knew NEWS had lyrics that where at all similar to TRC I wouldn't be very excited about it.

peace

okay, I just renewed my membership, do not know the latest scoop...In what format will N.E.W.S. be available to the members? Downloads? Are they going to ship cd's? Is this release part of the membership or will he charge all members as well to get this recording?

abierman,

it has a nice ring when you laugh at the low-life opinions...and we're comin' to the chorus now.

do you like the jicks too? i just heard they're opening for radiohead. i was lucky to see them last month in a super-small club...and yes, SM is every bit the genius that he's made out to be.

Gotta wait and see. Xpectation mostly did nothing for me so I wasn't that interested in more instrumentals, but that sample that's up now is pretty nice.

The arrangments on Xpectation were in the right direction.. the whole set up he had was really nice, its just tooo slow and boaring, and I DIG slow tracks, I would more than likely prefer slow tracks, but this set of songs are just too elevator style. Dont get me wrong, I'm all about some instrumental stuff.. I love it, but Xpectation is bland, the song Xenophobia would have helped things, but not much..

This NEWS, by the sample (Hopefully not misguided) sounds like it might be on the right track at what I dig.. I hope there are some electronic parts to the song, as well as any other direction the song takes.

I'll take instrumentals from Prince if it means no more Rainbow Childrenesque vomit lyrics.
