Could Prince be calling it a day?

Im just wondering...why would he be reflecting on his career so much all of a sudden also somebody pointed out about the 14 minute tracks on NEWS and how it might link to the fact that he's almost had his '15 minutes of fame'.

I must admit (as much as I hate too) it does seem as if he his winding down slowly..doing/saying everything that he's always wanted to whilst he still has the chance.

I know it seems like a crazy theory but, hey,he's a crazy guy.

So why do you think he's suddenly more interested in the stuff he used to do instead of new stuff? It just seems a little strange that, only a short while ago, he was trying to get away from all teh old stuff...now its the only thing that get attention on the NPGMC site

Yeah 56 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2. And 5 x 6 = 30 = 3.

And this means precisely 0.

How is Prince reflecting more or less than usual? He's not. Just cause there's a Reflection room that plays old songs, so what?

Yes, I think it is clear that he is slowing down big time in his older age. This is just natural I guess. I just have a feeling that he doesn't spend that much time in the studio any longer and he mostly hangs out with his wife and has fun. That is fine with me, as he has certainly "earned" it by entertaining us for 20+ years.

So the forthcoming release of a new, experimental (for him, anyway) album means he's calling it a day? Yeah, I follow you there. Tell me, when you let go of objects, do they fall up instead of down? You know. Just curious.

slowing down? interesting, right i want u all to go and look at your prince collection, compare what has been added to it in the past 3 years with any other 3 year period on your cd shelves, then come back and tell me why u think he is slowing down.

It may have something to do with being a JW because this takes up a lot of his time. Sad but true.

Hey - it was only an idea. You have to admit though, Prince rarely pays this much attention to his back catalogue and, after all, it was only a few years ago that he said he would never play songs like Purple Rain again.

It was merely an observation..that was all.

the downloads in year 1 & 2 alone were at least two albums, plus ONApiano, TRC, and ONAlive all in three years. . . actually been kinda speeding up a bit, hasn't he? and lately working on the website. which is really cool, because it's doing him proud.

u 4got c note as well, and now with NEWS and dvd coming, on average we wait only a few months for something new, when he was with warners it was generally once a year.

Hear Hear...

If Prince slowed to a crawl he would still be pumping out 3 times more material than the average artist.

I find it irritating how some Prince fans get annoyed with him when they feel that he is not releasing enough material. He has released more albums in the past 5 years than some well established artists have released throughout their entire career.

I guess in that sense, he has kind of made a rod for his own back, cause nowadays we expect it from him.

The web site seems to add to this pressure. He has broken with the traditional record company CD release cycle and as a result, esp. because of the immediacy of internet downloads, fans expect an album full of new material every 6 months (or less!).

Be Happy, Be Grateful, Learn some patience...

I think most of you miss the point a bit and are too touchy about the whole issue. Nobody is saying that Prince is producing less music now, but it seems to me (which I also think is what purpledoveuk is saying) that he has reached a point in his life and career where he is less "hungry" than he used to be.

He doesn´t need to prove that much anymore. Not to himself and not to his fans. He can relax and say and do what he feels like at his own pace. I do believe (as some others have speculated) that he is spending less time in the studio and more time with Mani just enjoying life. The actual musical output may remain the same (or even higher) but i think making music doesn´t have the same importance to him anymore. Sure, he is more political than ever, but I believe that´s just a way for him to keep his job fresh and interesting as opposed to before when he was eager to convey things that had been building up within him for a long time.

But of course, nobody but him knows for sure how he feels.
