I worship this song! I always have to listen to it several times: once for Shelia E's drumming, then for Prince's guitar work, then for that violin sound, then I start all over again to marvel at the percussion... nod

And the way it builds up just before that first pause, and the way it builds up again for Shelia's solo...oh I wish I could put it in words...

It's also one of those songs that get people going 'is that Prince?' when I've played it at work, and even my partner, who can't stand Prince at the best of times, likes Alexa De Paris.

I'm glad I finally got to say all that!lol
...I go 2 the max...I'm not afraid...I wanna dance...

I still say that's Prince on drums...not Sheila...

I love this song, especially the part that starts around 2:18! Just one question though...

Where do I know this song from? I know it very well, but I can't seem to remember of which album it is, or was it on an ahdio show maybe?

Thanks for the reply, but that still doesn't explain it to me because I don't have the single of Mountains (great song btw). U sure it's not on an Ahdio Show...?

I guess you know it because he dances to it in his movie "Under The Cherry Moon". You probably saw that movie, no?

Hmm, good one, only I saw that only once in my life and that's a very long time ago, so that can't be it either...

Thanx anyway!

The extended version is one of the reasons I haven't gotten rid of my 12" singles yet . . .

It's also on the "Letitgo" single that was released in 1994.
That's where I got to know it.

And despite that, it still sounds like I know it from some
other place. I think it sounds very farmilliar to something
else by another artist. I just can't put my finger on it.

Sorry to carp like this but I would still recommend you get hold of the vinyl version of 'Alexa De Paris'.

The reason? the version on the 'Letitgo' CD single wasn't mastered properly and, compared to the one on the back of the 'Mountains' single, sounds way too brittle and lacks the warmth of the vinyl version. Just give both a listen and it will become obvious.

What's more and even worse: the CD version sounds inexplicably speeded up by comparison.

There were obviously gremlins at Warners back in 1994.

With a chance to state the obvious, here's how it goes:

So do you like environmental records? Crickets tjirping, water rushing?
Supposed to make you horny, just makes me want to go to the bathroom...

Moviestar. I'm not Rainman heheh. I don't know, I was
in need of a new sig and so I just put some crap up. A
silly twist on the moviestar segue.

I've always loved Alexa De Paris since the first time I heard it. It is very catchy and makes me relaxed to listen to it. The long version is on the 12" single to Pop Life of course.
