so what's your opinion of the "reflection" track?

assuming sdldawn and the rest of y'all ain't playing a cruel joke on me, when i get home from work today i get to download reflection in 256 kbps...

i wanted to start a thread for people to post their opinions of the song, since i know a lot of you didn't get to hear it before.

personally, i LOVE this song. the difference between these lyrics and the so-called moorish lyrics...there's a profound difference. these are subtle and warm and full of metaphor and symbolism...beautiful.

mirrored dials all over the bed
fishing nets and posters all over the walls
sometimes i just wanna sit out on the stoop, and uh - play my guitar
and watch all, all the cars go by...

It's like a merger from songs on "The Truth", combined with
"Pears B4 The Swine" and "She Loves Me 4 Me".

I like this song a lot, the lyrics are nice the melody is
simple yet has some subtle changes here and there to keep
it from being too "easy".

Asskissing aside, I think this is a wonderful song.

My opinion is WHEEE!!!

Oh, you mean of the actual music, and not just the decision to post it as a download?

It's nice. It reminds me of his b-sides from back in the day, when you saw he had a new single out and you'd get excited cuz it meant a new song.

Hence the title, I s'pose...

totally boring, with a title like that you hope for something deep maybe even revealing but the lyrics and music is not moving me. Sorry folks i can't love everything he does!.

it's all good, javed...you only like what you like. i don't like everything he does either. i DO love this little song to pieces though.

i think the lyrics are pretty surprisingly revealing, actually: "i was just thinking about my mother" - i dunno, kinda makes me wanna cry. but i'm a sap like that.

thanks for posting your thoughts!

That was my thinking, too...I thought the lyrics were very introspective and personal...and the melody is subtle and catchy...the final test, tho, is burning it onto a CD and playing it in my car as I drive around today...lol

I love this song! The lyrics were very personal! The music

fits the lyrics perfectly. Reminds me of a lazy saturday at

home with my boyfriend.Mind just drifting, relaxing,

thinking, saying whatever pops in your mind. And I love the

way the song ends,it just stops, like his thoughts were

interuppted. I wish he would write more songs like this

I sometimes forget that he's a human 2 this songs reminded

me why I love him in the first place.

Listened to this track once, attempted to listen to it again back to back but fell asleep reaching for the remote, didn't really grab me, i find the arrangement a big yawner. He wrote this in his sleep.

It does feel like a bit of a 'filler'. Prince on autopilot.

if you try really hard you can sing "I Love U In ME" over it.
i kinda like it. it has real instruments on it which is always a plus. there ain't no damn synth violins afking it like on Emancipation. it also sounds like it mite be on D&P or Love Symbol. that's not good. it's a grower.
there ain't no visible chorus as such. it's just a nice story being told.
get it?

it’s always fascinating to see the different reactions any given piece of prince music evokes, even among the hardcore. to me, rave and newpowersoul were prince on auto-pilot. i agree that this is a “simple” song, but that’s part of the charm, i think… i agree that this sounds kinda look it could be on the symbol album…kinda like “sweet baby”, which is one of my favorite songs of all time.

I think Reflection is a laid-back, catchy tune . . . it's not meant to be a hit, nor is it meant to be "filler".

I like the lyrics, and how they "reminisce"

biggrin

I agree with IstenSzek that the song has the same vibe as The Truth and parts of ONA (piano), but of which I enjoy. I'm enjoying this track right now because it's not Prince trying to stand on a societal or religious soap box -- it's just Prince singing a cool song with cool lyrics nicely smoothed out. I don't care if it sounds like it's something he could do musically in his sleep...sometimes that kind of approach can produce awesome music.

While I wouldn't call Reflection "awesome," I dig the song. I also dig that it wasn't promised or guaranteed to us as part of membership, so it feels special to me in a way.

I'm not blown away by the song, but it is definitely good, and reminds me of "Come in from the Cold," my favorite Joni tune.

It sure is lovely. I have it playing right now as I type this. Reminds me a little of "Circle of Amour" from The Truth and I suppose that one is a little reflective too.

Aaah it's too pretty - it's putting me off typing. This kind of song is best written by someone getting older, and nostalgic. The sound is nostalgic too and Prince did not do that by accident. He did not write this in his sleep IMHO.

Summed up in an emoticon the song is music

I agree with ya Amethytangel - Its a beautiful song indeed...its moments like these that make me realise that he hasnt totally lost what I sometimes think he has. At first listen it doesnt sound anything special but, like all his stuff, you have to listen to all teh layers to get teh real song. I used to spend hours at night with my headphones on listening to Diamonds & Pearls...do you know how different Insatiable sounds if you REALLY listen to it.

I agree with the bit about his mom too but,and I hope I dont spoil it for you, it does sound sometiems a bit Norman Bates if you dont hear it all "I was just thinking about...Mother!!!" stab
