VINCENT

This song is really poor. The arrangements are horrific. The lyrics are ridiculous. The melody could have been written by a 6 year old.

why does it always have to be so difficult with the NPGMC? you click on a button that says download and nothing obvious happens for quite a while - I clicked many times because it didn't look like it was doing anything. Then finally a player window opened in my browser that I couldn't save the file with - it took so long for anything to show up that I almost gave up. I had to hunt in my temporary files folder, to find the random named file that looked like the right size and finally drop that onto iTunes.

On my windows machine it was even worse. I clicked on the "hi" button and got the busy cursor for a second, and then nothing. No visible indication that anything was downloading. No file on my disk. No player in my browser. I kept clicking on both the hi and low button trying to make something happen and nothing ever came up - I finally closed the browser window and tried it on my mac, to get the above results. I even tried the html access thinking it'd make downloading easier, but the html version of the club doesn't even let you download the song. It took at least 25 minutes from the time I decided to finally sign on and download the song until the time I had the song on my drive.

When I compare this to the experience I've had buying songs off of the iTunes Music Store, it's just even more unbelievable. At the iTunes store, see a song, click buy, and about a second later it's downloaded and in your play list. And the total time to lauch iTunes, click on the music store, type in "reflection", get the search result, find a song, click buy, download, and play, is 10 seconds. I did most of it just now to time it - I didn't click buy because, of course, Prince's Reflection is not available at the iTunes store. Instead you have to pay $25 to join a club where it takes 25 minutes to download a single song.

CO-SIGN

I'm tryina download it now (on Windows) and it's doing just what you've described...

There's a direct link from someone in the U Tell Us forum, in this thread
http://www.npgmusicclub.c...php?t=8529

This is how I finally managed to get this track.
Pixius has also said in the Member Help forum that they will be changing to the same type of download as last years club.
Hope this helps.

Copy and paste the link to your browser, for some reason it doesn't work otherwise! Not very computer savvy I'm afraid.

sigh

1. Click the link
2. WMP 9.0 opens and starts loading the file
3. File is completely loaded and playing in WMP 9.0
4. Choose 'File' - 'Save Media as..'
5. Choose thew directory where you want to keep the Reflection.mp3

Now that's not difficult. comfort

why are they doing it this way? Some people arent aware of how to get a file from a "temp" file.. They could have easily just put the file up just like any other download..

just silly I say.

Mr7

Is it a straight MP3 or an MPEG?

My PC is saving it as an MPEG Audio and I am unable to burn MPEG's with my programs (Roxio & Real Player).

I had the same problem with C-NOTE, which I still haven't been able to burn.

If anyone can help I'd be much appreciated.

Peace.

let me repeat a couple of points I made in my longer email because people clearly missed them, and add some things that are responses to some of the other things posted

- I'm on a cable modem, so this should all happen fast.

- in windows, I clicked on the link and after the hourglass appeared for a second and went away, nothing else happened. No windows media player loaded. No file containing the name reflection was stored anywhere on my hard disk. No downloading a file dialog. No progress display. Nothing happened. I tried it many times and nothing ever happened.

- on the mac, like above, nothing appeard to happen at all for minutes. The same things that didn't happen above didn't happen on the mac. In addition, nothing ever shows up in the download manager. Long enough that I was about to close the window and give up when teh player window finally appeared.

- the page on the site says "Download the MP3", with options buttons marked Lo and Hi. You would expect clicking on those buttons would download the file to your disk.

- I used internet explorer and the latest OSes on both machines.

- you can't copy the link (I tried then and just tried again) because right clicking the button brings up the macromedia flash menu, not the internet explorer menu

- I also tried the html version of the site, but it doesn't even have the song on the page.

- note that windows media player on windows and quicktime on both platforms all work just fine for the videos on the site, so I don't think there's a configuration problem. I've certaintly never had a problem downloading a MP3 file before.

The only way I was able to get the song was to wait for it to load on the mac, ignoring the fact there was no visible indication anything was even downloading, then grab it from the temporary items folder.

A final note - whoever said I'm not very computer savy couldn't be more wrong. I've been a software developer since before there was a Macintosh or a Windows OS. I write stuff like this for a living. In fact, I almost got hired to fix the lack of mac support in the intial year of the club. The company took too long to decide to hire me and Prince rightly fired them before I had a chance to fix mac support for them. The revised Year 1 club worked far better than the mess they have now.

As a programmer, I'm stunned at how hard they make it this year. I'd think a programmer would have to go out of his way to make something as simple as downloading a MP3 this hard to accomplish. I wonder how members who don't know computers stand a chance of getting it to work.

If I had to go through this for any other artist, I'd stop buying their music.

oh - ok - sorry... I misread your post - thought you were referring to the NPGMC button, not the link in your prior post.

back to the topic at hand, I just don't get how someone like Prince, who puts so much effort into making sure his music is done right would then put so much effort into ensuring his music club is so wrong. It has to cost him a lot of money to create and run NPGMC. Yet it's so poorly executed that I come here instead of checking there to find out if/when new content is posted.

Wow! I guess I'm a die-hard Prince fan, in the sense that 9 times out of ten, if he writes something I'm going to like it. He never ceases to amaze me. Though I agree, it does remind me of a few songs on ONA, it's Beautiful non the less.

Sometimes Prince really lets you in personally/emotionally, through his music. I think 'Reflection' is one of those songs that does just that.

Again.. Wow!

Now like the rest of you...let me browse through my hard drive and find the freakin' song wink
