The NPGMC message boards are not a place to critcize Prince and the club. It is supposed to be a place to hang out and have fun. I hope they ban everyone who posts negative and mean-spirited messages.

Then they would be banning themsleves cuz they do it too.

I have heard there is another lovemachine on the npgmc so the credit may get confused.

Prince music? Yes. Prince the person? Questionable at best. There exists double standards/hypocrisy on his site. When the doors first opened, we were asked 'How do you like your new home?' Yeah, our new home until we say something he doesn't like. Then the landlord wants to threaten to kick you out. NO, I don't like that side of Prince. Is this the same person who spoke for years of being free? Forget all that talk about FAMily. He is up there and we are down here.

Nice post. Prince's attitude in his music these days as well as the club itself, often reek of the approaches taken by uptight two-faced religious groups.

When a club or any other institution starts making demands on what you can or cannot say, that is NOT freedom. When a person or group makes a heavy handed effort to impose their views, and standards on you, and they will accept no alternative, that means they have no respect for anyone else's views but their own. When they develop an unrealistic and unreasonable arrogance about their understanding of life, it shows how off track they really are.

Greetings all…

I signed into the Club earlier today to check up on the U Tell Us posts and my Private Messages.

I received a PM from one of the moderators, and for the purposes of privacy rights (and keeping my membership), I’m not going to cut-and-paste the message here. [Quick question: does anyone know if it would be okay for me to paraphrase the message here? I’d really rather not have my membership revoked and not have access to any music that might possibly be released this year. Y’know, considering I paid $25 for the year and all.]

Essentially I was told that “we don’t like your kind around here” – at least, that’s what it sounds like to me. Without addressing the fact that the club itself has so far made negative, catty remarks about Tevin Campbell, Common and Ronin Keating, the moderator asked me to stop posting negative comments about the club and Prince, b/c “there is no need for that here.” (That’s ALMOST a direct quote, but we ALL know that nobody who works for Paisley would spell out the word “for.”)

I’m curious as to what y’all think about this (I mean aside from “hell yeah!! You’re annoying as fuck anyway!”). What I mean is, do you think that as long as people don’t cuss and try to respect other’s opinions, should they still be asked to only say “positive” things about prince and the club on the NPGMC discussion board? I find that insulting and ridiculous, personally. Not to mention incredibly depressing.

What do you all think?

I think Prince's fan base is rapidly bcoming more and more polar, much like the rest of the world, where you either think like he does or you don't; his side or 'their' side. I don't think there is considerable room for open dilalogue in the Paisley camp anymore. Soon, I fear, the Prince fanbase will be reduced to nothing but 100,000 or so Jehovas Witnesses who are willing to hand out money hand over fist for the chance to hear their hero's music. Now, I HOPE that's not what happens, but it sure does seem headed in that direction to me.

"Aint no room to disagree", right?

For the record it is very silly for the NPGMC to post the Ronald Keating thing as Prince "borrows" very heavily from other songs all the time. .

Borrowing and stealing are two different things. It's one thing to be influenced by another musician. it's another thing entirely to blatantly rip off a song like that Purple Rain ripoff.

Or that "Bang A Gong" rip-off (see 'cream')

So criticize him here and on alt.music.prince and everywhere else you want. But the NPGMC is not the proper forum for that. It's like Michael Moore making his stupid speech at the Academy Awards.

You shouldn't join the club if you don't want to play by the rules. And if you wasted $25 because you were counting on dogging out Prince in his own house, then I have no pity for you.

Yeah, the Positivity Police seem to want to keep the fluffy pen-o'-sheep attitude going on.

It's just sad. Community is a great thing, and community inspired by art is an even better thing. I really think that Prince and/or the NPGMC peeps saw the org and thought, "Neat! Now, if we could just get a cleaner, happier version of that at our site, that would be nifty spiff!"

And SOOO many of those people are thrilled to play along. It's like a giant role-playing game, with all of these people playing Aura/Mayte/Muse sort of roles that they think fit what P wants for the site. Pfft. It's too bad people can't just be themselves.

I stick around hoping that the froth will die down after awhile and the good parts of what they have set up there can come through. Plus, it's fun to refuse to play along. smile

Hasn't it always been his perogative to ban negative aholes who like spreading their nagativity around his club?

Give it a rest already!! If you don't like Prince or his music or his club or his rules or his this or his that, then why in the hell do you bother with him at all?

I have noticed that you have been quite vocal in saying what you think...

I hate that stuff myself.
I am not surprised that people who would never post here feel

While I don't agree that you should be silenced, I think people are right in saying look @ HOW you say things - not that you have to be positive, but you don't have to slam him every chance you get either (who would put up w/ that?). I don't know, maybe you'd be shut down anyway regardless of delivery but we'll never know that now... perhaps you should have thought about this while you were so fervently telling the mod's to "fuck off" a few weeks ago - you've left a bad taste in their mouths for no good reason. You spewed all that anger & silliness w/o cause, but NOW you have something valid to say & they don't wanna hear you :::SHOCK & AWE::: neutral I'm not saying I agree w/ them on this matter BUT I can understand how you as a member might always have a cloud over your head w/ them.

If this really is about the whole Ronan Keating thing, maybe they would have done the same to anyone bringing up the counterpoints you have b/c it weakens their stance. But thanks to your past behavior, we'll never know if this is just how they are or if it's the result of a bad first impression...

sensual melody, no fucking offense, but do you ever listen to any of the following?

days of wild (pre-97 versions only)
come
pheromone
sexy mf
automatic
erotic city
scarlet pussy
lovesexy
superfunkycalifragisexy
rockhard in a funky place
gett off

in other words, do you ever listen to his raunchy stuff? i'm truly curious...b/c i can't imagine it. you seem like such a prude, i can't really picture you singing along to the twisted funk of i wanna melt with u: don't look now but there's a river of blood! you must've been a virgin, what am i guilty of? oh no...

you should try to understand that some of prince's fans have been with him for a long time and are still "free" with our language and thought, to the point that we're not afraid to cuss, and we're not bible-thumpers. you can be uptight and conservative and religious all you want...it doesn't bother US...but you expect us to curtail ourselves according to your conservative values...

how exactly is that going both ways? THAT'S what bothers us, or more specifically, ME.

No, I did not expect the club to be the way it is. Had I known, I would not have joined, especially because there ain't no music at the music club. I am glad there is a place for people who choose to be happy and positive all the time to go. Gets them off of here with their complaining about the complainers. Everybody that comes here is a Prince fan. Some of us just don't think everything Prince does is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Am I am real fan? I own everything Prince has ever released commercially. I don't buy bootlegs. I go to his concerts. I gave him his 25 dollars donation he requested. I just happen not to like everything he puts out and like to vice my opinion. Does that make me any less of a fan than those who lie and claim to love everything he does? Keep being true to yourself, Blue. Years ago, when I was a Prince fanatic, fam, whatever, when I ate, breathed and drank Prince, there was still shit I didn't like and didn't listen to. I make very few comments about Prince and his personal life(his women, the stupid books written about him), unlike some of the people who call themselves "fams". Why? Because it's none of my business what he does outside of his music. This will be the last time I defend myself over the fact I don't have my head stuck up Prince's ass.

Really, I can't tell...pick any five threads...of those five...there will be at least 3 containing some form of negativity. It is very rare that any of you have anything positive to say. And when you are called on it, then it becomes..."I can speak my mind if I want." Well, so can I and I'm not going anywhere. When you are busy sprewing your venom...I'll be right here...ready to call you on it. Deal with it!

Because it's none of my business what he does outside of his music. This will be the last time I defend myself over the fact I don't have my head stuck up Prince's ass.

Don't you...sit back and really give it some thought!

According to you, everyone that happens to like the club and aren't complaining about every little thing, has their head up his ass...if that's the case then there's plenty of room for you.

And since you couldn't think that hard...I'll break it down for you...

Continously giving your attention, time, and money to someone who by your own admission repeatedly displeases you EQUALS being all up in his ass! I'm talking knee deep!...so now you tell me...how's his colon? Men in their 40's can't be too careful. wink
