New song clip on "Digital Garden" page

On the "Digital garden" page there is a clip of what i think is a Ronan Keating song and NPGMC asks what Prince song it sounds like.
I'm not sure. Chords start off a little like Purple Rain then I have no idea what we are supposed to recognise.
Any ideas?

"The Long Goodbye" and it was already released by Brooks and Dunn on their "Steers and Stripes" record from 2001.

i mean, did the surviving members of queen make bitchy comments about 3 chains o' gold and its rip-off of bohemian rhapsody?

no, they didn't. they understand art and homage and influence and Class.

work sucks ass even more than usual today.

Oh my God...definitly Purple rain! How can they do this and sleep at night if? Well, on the other hand maybe Ronan is a fan just like us and wants to make a point... (but he has to pay copyrights!)

Oh dear!!!

Has Prince really realised that he has lost it then...why else would he have his people searching for similar sounding songs just so that he can say "look at me ,look at me...I wrote a few of those notes 19 years ago".

Do something original so that people arent catching up with you then!!!

Has nobody else noticed that The Ride is an exact ripoff of another song (except fro teh lyrics that is) and that teh guitar at the begining of I'm Yours is exactly the same as an Eric Clapton song"!!!

Everyone is missing the point!

Obviously Ronan Keating has used this blatant copy of the Puple Rain intro for his own song, without prior consent from Prince.

...and Prince is making a fair point, in my opinion, by bringing our attention 2 it.

A similar case happened a couple of years ago when KD Lang's "Constant Craving" ended up rehashed and appearing as a Rolling Stone's track "Anybody seen my baby?".

This a'int new music from Prince. I'm very happy with NPGMC 2003 so far, 4 vids, a new song, and some cool, albeit not new I admit, trax from previous Ahdio shows. But what do you xpect for $25? A private concert?

Members of the club,

As brother Malcolm once said,..."you've been bamboozled, hoodwinked,... took!"

By the way, did Prince give Malcolm credit for that line? hmmm...

I personally find this kind of thing annoying. This is what I posted on the NPGMC forum, relating to this piece.

I don't know what's going on with this, but I think it's just a case of paranoia. There is NOTHING about this song that immediately makes me think 'Oh yes, this is a blatant rip-off of a Prince song'. If it's brought to people's attention that this MUST sound like a Prince song, then obviously, people will try to find a song that this sounds like. Please, NPGMC, be more specific what you think this song sounds like. Are you not brave enough to just come out and say it?
If Prince seriously thinks that this sounds like one of his songs, then why doesn't he just take it up privately with the people involved, instead of desperately trying to get us all on-side?

This is pathetic and personal vendettas are not what I joined the NPGMC for.

I'll just say one thing;

3 Chains O' Gold and Bohemian Rhapsody. Did any official Queen sites hint at the fact that Prince had blatantly ripped off their work.

haystack, i'm with you - i believe i posted something to that effect over at the club.

dan...well, i mean, what can i say except that the only similarity is the same chord structure and the tinkling piano and maybe an overall...i dunno, "grandiose" tone, for lack of a better word. prince could take this to any judge in the world and they would laugh him out of court.

i mean if you wanna hear a REAL musical homage (i guess prince would call it a rip-off) of purple rain, listen to the end of the afghan whigs' "faded" - or how about tori amos' "hey jupiter"?

2 INCREDIBLE songs, by the way. kazaa 'em up if you can (or substitute yer favorite file-sharing program) and post your opinions!

or don't. wink

listening to prince's remake of "got 2 give it up" that (i guess?) was intended for the newer madhouse 24 is interesting in light of the recent revelations about p and nona's relationship, according to nona anyway.

yes, it sounds SO much like Purple Rain that it is obvious and pathetic. I hope Prince sues this guy, but I've never heard of him, so he probably doesn't have any money anyway.

do you honestly think prince has some sort of PATENT on that chord progression? prince could try to sue this guy all he likes...it would never even get to trial, b/c it's simply NOT PLAGIARISM.

STILL not ONE SINGLE PERSON either here OR at the club who has posted saying "what a rip-off! prince should sue the pants off that guy" -- not ONE of you has bothered to even give your OPINION of the queen/3 chains o' gold link. HELLO??!!! don't worry, i won't hurt you...i only want you...to HAVE...SOME...FUN.

and tonyc, such harsh language!! "obvious and pathetic"? why would something so meaningless inspire such...VEHEMENCE in you towards this ronan fellow?

me personally, i would figure that it makes more sense to be slightly irritated at prince for putting a sample of someone else's song up and not putting up any music of his own?

is it not called the Music club, after all?

ALL music is insestuous by nature. Whether blatant rip off or not, there are only so many notes 2 use, so many cominations - and HOW many songs have been written? The law of averages will ensure that this happens a lot more than we would like, maybe even pay attention 2.
Yeah - it's amazing Prince. Like, wooo. rolleyes
I really dont care - all everyone is gettin are smoke and mirror tactics. Like I said before - NPGMC is great, but once u scratch the pretty paint work, its substance is SORELY lacking content wise.

Come on people, Prince never posted a message saying "this song is a blatent rip off of Purple Rain". Like bananacologne said, there are only so many notes and ways to use them etc. Maybe Prince just noticed the "coincidence" as well, and thought he would share it with us. Though, having said that, it is VERY similar indeed. It sure does bring a hmm ?smirk? whofarted to ones face!

OK, here goes...
Yes, 3 Chains is definately a "Queen sounding" song, ie: theatrical/rock/multi layered sound etc, but EXACTLY what Queen song is it ripping off? I want a chord progression or something, not just a "it sounds like Queen" answer. I've listened to some of there albums, but am by no means an expert on there work.

OH!!!

MY!!!

GOD!!!

bohemian rhapsody, which was popular again via wayne's world earlier that year or the year before. prince even said this much in a couple of interviews, i believe. certainly every review i read of the album mentioned it. and every time i ever played it for anybody or ever play it for anybody now they SCREAM "BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY"!!!

so evil girl, if one of us has a date with the undertaker which one will it be?

i mean, this is far from the only musical homage prince has done in his own music - but his criticisms never are turned inward.

I would add that 3 chains has similarities with Bohemian rapsody at one moment. really obvious! but otherwise the song is not the same as Queen from the begining! Ronan keating is!! Anyway that was hten, this is now and the Digital Garden section is meant to have such remarks publushed guys.

Or maybe we got all wrong ans it was just a way of syaing "hey guys! Listen I'm still sampled!!".

that would be the saddest interpretation of all, perhaps. although essentially, that IS what he's doing, just in a judgemental, passive-aggressive way...

what you said was not to just say "it sounds like queen". you wanted to know exactly what prince song it was ripping off. i told you...bohemian rhapsody, have you never heard that song or something? how old are you? (naw man, yer like totally too old to care...)

look up the freaking chord progression yo' DANG self if you want to, i ain'tcher bitch. 69

Err, your wrong. I know of Bohemian Rhapsody and 3 Chains and as I said in an earlier post, they are similar, but 3 Chains is not a RIP OFF, mearly "inspired" by Bohemian.
